I'm trying to follow the directions on the help page to download an aircraft.  One of the steps says "open the FS Downloads folder and right click the required file (ok), Choose "Extract to folder", Well......... "Extract to folder is not an option when I right click the file.  Anyone know why?  I'm using win 98 SE

99% of all the downloads here are in .zip format.

To extract these files you need third party decompression software like WinZip or WinRar or any one of a million other programs that do the same thing.

I assume "FS Downloads folder" means wherever folder you downloaded your file into.  For me it's always C:/My Download Files.  Then I extract them into C:/My Download Files/Unzipped.  Different people probably do it differently.

NEVER unzip anything directly into an FS9 folder.  You can easily overwrite an important file.

(PS - If you use WinRar it is possible to integrate it into the shell so that right clicking a .zip file will show you an "Extract files" option.)

Yes, definitely do NOT extract ANYTHING directly to the flight simulator. What I do is create a temp install folder and extract all files to that. Usually 99% of the time they will extract into separate folders corresponding to the ones in FS 2004. You can then cut and paste the contents in their corresponding FS folders.

If you are using Windows XP then an unzip utility is built into the OS. Just open the folders like you would any other folder and XP will take care of the unzipping. You can then cut and paste from there. If you have Windows 98 then you will need to download a utility like Winzip or Winrar. Lots of unzipping utilities out there for free so it won't cost you.

WinZip is not really an option these days as the free trial version now has a strict time limit. I've been testing a freeware utility named EasyZip that works in much the same way. It even has that right-click "Extract to" option. I can recommend it. http://www.thefreesite.com/easyzip111.htm
