fun subject...what would you do?

Here is a thread I thaught would be fun to post. What would you do if...

1.) You are piloting a 777-300 (I belive is the default version) You start off in DFW and head for HNL. You fail to realize that you are running out of fuel. Your MX crew in DFW accidently punctured a fuel line. You are now 1300 KM into the Pacific with 22% fuel left...What would you do?

2.)You are the pilot of a SF3 leaving FNT with a full tank of gas. Heading into MDW, there is only 1/16 vis. 100ft ceiling. You have enough fuel to hold for an hour. You do. After that hour, ATC tells you that MDW is closed...snow removal (I know its a simulator...but still...), you are now down to 17% fuel. ORD, MKE, SBN, DPA are out of commision. Your passengers could make a lot of connections out of your second hub...IND (can you guess who I work for LOL), but you are getting close on fuel. What would you do?

3.)You are the pilot of a Be1900D. You had a MX problem with your no.2 engine earlier in the day. You depart YYZ, and are trying to reach IND. You are 85 mi. southwest of DTW when the prop stops spinning. What do you do?

4.)You are piloting a DC-9s from CLT and heading to DTW. Apon take off from CLT, Tower advises you your left nosewheel fell off. What do you do?

5.)You're in the big leauges. A 747-400. Chock full of pax. Routing NRT(RJAA) - JFK. There are several pireps that there is Severe turbulance in the JFK area.  ASOS reports 1/4 mi. vis. due to fog. You have 12% fuel left. LGA, EWR, PHL, BOS are all in thesame boat. Lots of fog. Do you try to shoot the approach? Do you divert? What do you do?

--------------Here are the rules---------------
1.There is no "Unlimited Fuel" or mid-air refueling
2.Realism is at 100%
3.No using "slew"
4.No smart-alic changing the WX

I will post my decisions after this thread has been responded to 5x. Thanks! Have fun, be creative!

1.) Isolate the leak by cross feeding tanks and see which slows the leak down, when the leaking tank or line leading to the leaking tank is found, crossfeed fuel from that tank to other tanks. (remember air transit A330)
Go to higher altitude and ride the fuel out, RAT on standby, maximum fuel efficienicy speed set, ride it out to cloest land possible.

2.) Delcare fuel emergency and land in MDW, snow removal crews better shift into high gear, or they will see the props coming in their way if they don't!

3.)Shut disabled engine down, depending on the status of other systems, continue trip to planned airport if the fuel burn doesn't exceed the limits.

4.) Tell tower to send maintenance over.  I'll be waiting :D

5.) When did you except a 747 to land at LGA? That airport can't take anything bigger than a  DC-10 or 767-400ER
ILS landing at JFK baby!

1) You have to have really ****ed up to not realize a fuel leak like that, but it happens. X-feed always does the trick, possibly climb to conserve fuel.

2) Umm, what are the chances of ALL those airports being out of comission? But fine, we;ll play it by your rules. If I'm flying on VATSIM, I declare a fuel emergency and request emergency routing, I don't care what the state of the airport is. If I'm in FS, I pretend to declare a fuel emergency and do above.

3) Hand fly her, land at closest airport. It is entirely possible to fly a turboprop that's lost one, so long as it hasn't been destroyed (don't forget the ATA Brazilia that went down after it's prop was destroyed and the flight crew failed to notice it)

4) This is a toughie, as I'm not up to date on what's better-a belly landing or a gear down minus nose wheel landing. Either way, you can continue on to DTW, there's no reason to land as quickly as possible (I think).

5) Pfft, common! ILS approach!

1.) send hails on all frequencies, turn on X-feed head for closest land, and prepare to land, or hit water...

2.)since I live 18 Mi NW of ORD, i know what i'd be doing, i tested that you can land a full 737 onto 06C,  a mun airport uncontrolled, with lights (installed after FS9), go to KPWK (another mun, controlled) or go up to wisconsin

3.)look for the closest airport or patch of land, even though you can fly with one prop, adjust your rudder...

4.)NOT land on a concrete runway. I'd shoot for the grass

5.)go for the landing - ILS

...and risk digging a big hole with the nose wheel (if you haven't already done so with the mains...) ???

The others I don't know because I rarely fly the bigger aircraft. With the planes I usually fly I'd either try to make it to somewhere I could land or look for a place off field to set it down. Pretty easy to do the last when you do mostly bush flying.

Question number 3 however just happened to me the other night. I was flying one of the biggest aircraft that I regularly fly, the Flight 1 ATR (beautiful plane) and somehow got my engine focus on the #1 engine and couldn't get it back to both. I was getting too much differential thrust with #2 idling so I found that the easiest way was to shut it down and let the systems of the ATR adjust for me (it works a lot like the real ATR in this way). Landed without a problem on one engine although the thing flew like a lame duck on just one engine.

In the case of the nosewheel. I remember some time back a pilot in a GA plane lost a wheel on takeoff (don' think it was the nosewheel though). He flew on to his destination and landed with gear up. Did a lot of damage to the airplane but the pilot and passengers got out without a scratch.

I would try to get as near to shore as posible and try to soft land her in the water

I would declare a emergency and do a belly landing on the snow

3.)You are the pilot of a Be1900D. You had a MX problem with your no.2 engine earlier in the day. You depart YYZ, and are trying to reach IND. You are 85 mi. southwest of DTW when the prop stops spinning. What do you do?

I first try to start engine agian if that does not work I cut fuel to that engine and fly on

4.)You are piloting a DC-9s from CLT and heading to DTW. Apon take off from CLT, Tower advises you your left nosewheel fell off. What do you do?

Faint   ;D
I would land at the airport on the belly of the plane with fire crew standing by

5.)You're in the big leauges. A 747-400. Chock full of pax. Routing NRT(RJAA) - JFK. There are several pireps that there is Severe turbulance in the JFK area.  ASOS reports 1/4 mi. vis. due to fog. I don't think that planes have lasers  ;D
I go for a landing at LGA and pray  8)

1.) I would try to find the leak, and crossfeed as much of the fuel into an unaffected fuel tank.

1) With 1300km about 807mi about 702nm would be about 1/3 or the way out to Hawaii, so I guess I would turn back to KLAX since we made it so far from DFW past LAX. Depending on the rate of fuel leak adjust top of descent. See if x-feed can help diminish the leak rate of a fuel line(tank?). (don't know enough about 777 fuel system schematics).

2) Find and request  the nearest CATIII ILS landing with enough runway.

3) Try to restart the engine. If it restarts, decend to lower altitude and keep mixture on high and props full foward 1700 rpm. If it doesn't, try to land with one engine GUMP. (not too familiar with twin-engine procedures so don't know what settings for prop etc.) My PMDG B1900D is nice on graphics and manuevering but a little scant on engine details. ("express" product! grr)

4) Er... circle and land back at CLT? Tower would do more than just say nosewheel fell off?:)

5) Cat III ILS landing at JFK.

Erm, ATA hasn't ever flown Brazilia's...are you thinking of the AA J41 that went down a few months back?

Very Good Responses, I will post mine tonight, along with a V.2

Thanks and Happy contrails!

1) hit ALT, go to select aircraft, and refuel, continue on my way.

I was refering to the regional Atlanta airline ATA, not the big one (I'm pretty sure the name was ATA, and this wasn't very recent)

4. I would tell em to take a truck drive it down the runway and put the nose in the bed of the truck and land it an d have him stop u . just hope u dont slide off of the truck or flip it. but in simulator i would slow down useing flaps , and belly land the bird.
5. ils aproch onto the taxi, i love em lol :D . u just gota turn appch. off. then land it on the runway.
2. umm i would tellem to move there but s, a fluffy landing i the snow is better then striaght concret lol.

Lol yea right, landing in snow isn't any better than concrete-I would guess it's actually worse (you're landing on some field, as opposed to a nice long, clean runway)
