Is it possible to apply an alpha reflective layer to the water textures, so to bring reflectiveness to the water at "Low" settings?
I've tried sliding my slider all the way to full on "Water Effects Detail" and it doesn't stay.
I'd like to bring my sim experience to a new level.

There are several water texture replacements available (scenery d'loads) that produce reflections, Bill Lyons' for one. Whether they use alpha channel or not I dont know.
Dont know the technical details but, in FS9, between 'Terrain detail' and 'Water effects', only one can be set to high. The other will default to low.
Also I believe if your graphics adapter is not up to it the 'Water effects' will not stick at high, (as is my case).
Cheers,
Dave

Don't think you will get ever proper reflections (eg of a plane sitting on the water)
The FS9 graphics engine can't do it.

you need a 128mb video card to do that

I've got a 256 card, and the very nice WaterZone add-on textures, but I still don't get a true reflection of the aircraft on the water. I agree that it's a limitation of the engine...

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 with 64 MB of Memory. And I can still get the reflective water along with the wave action of the water.
FS requires DirectX 9.0 drivers in order to get the full potential out of FS. My card has Dx 9.0c.

Your graphics car only needs to support DX8 to get the fancey water.

So in theroy then the GeForce 4 MMX 440 cards ARE ment to show reflections because they can support up to DX8.1...
