Saving aircraft...

In a couple of weeks I hope to move my sim over to another computer. What files do I need to save? I have over 100 aircraft on my sim.. I wouldn't want to treload 'em all back on! Apart from the aircraft folder anything else need saving? I want to leave behind as much as I can as I've had problems and errors so I'd like a clean install on the new computer.
Thanks
Ben

I am afraid its best to start over then.
You would need to take the Effects folder and Gauges folder minimum, possibly the texture folder too. There may be other folders too it all depends on which aircraft you have.
What I do these days is install aircraft into a temp fs9 dir with all the correct file structure. When I get 10 aircraft in there zip it as one file. Makes it easier to re-install at a later date.

New machine - fresh start. Go & bite the bullet. Out with the old, in with the new. You know it makes sense Ben.

Och well, thanks anyway.

If you kept the zipfiles there's no reason you can't transfer them to the new machine. This will save you downloading them again. Installing the files shouldn't take long. If you added any AI traffic you might like to save your TTools & AFCAD source files.

I deleted all the zip files... just kept a backup of the original folder. Grr!
That's a lesson learnt anyway.

You might try this utility. It seems to work really well especially for what you want to do. It's still a little rough around the edges but it does a good job packaging aircraft out of FS 2004. You may need Winzip to unpack them. I don't know if the author has fixed a problem with Windows XP security settings not letting you unpack the .zip files made with Flight Sim Manager. Winzip however does just fine for unpacking. Never did like that Windows XP zip utility anyway.

Another option would be to put your old hard drive into your new computer temporarily (or permanantly if you want) as a slave drive, then just copy over the files you want.

Here, here, the best advice I have heard on this topic as of yet..;-)
That's what I would do IMHO, but that's just me..;-)

Thats almost how I did it, but I just kept the drive as a slave, with FS already on it, and never had to uninstall, ro re-install anything. By the way, I have been wanting to ask for a long time, what is IMHO?
