When an official newer version is released you may as well get it basically.
The new games will generally always use the latest DX so you may as well be running it as sooner or later you will have to install it.
Hey I have 9a.....I said 9.0 but just did a check...it's not giving me any strife though so maybe i'll keep it for now..commonerWon't hurt to keep it updated, although I have skipped one occasionally. Watch out for the beta releases though. Was it 9.0 or 9.0a or b Beta that caused alot of problems? One of the beta releases did. I usually avoid any beta releases and wait for the final releases seeing as how it can be hard to clean out DX.
Just my thoughts. ;-)
I'm a little wary of updating DX as once it's installed it can't be overwritten or removed. The latest DX9.0c messed up my carefully tweaked graphics settings in FS2002 & FS9. They ran perfectly on the previous version so I should have left well alone. I'm using an old video card with no chance of updated drivers.
This might be no problem on WinXP as I understand you can use the System Restore feature to revert back to before you installed it. I've never managed to get this feature to work in WinMe.
