FS9 Startup Problem

Hello to everyone on this forum,

First off, let me introduce myself.  I am an avid flight simulator enthusiast, and for the last few weeks have been working my way through Flight Simulator 2000.

As a Christmas present, I became the happy owner of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004:  A Century of Flight.  The moment it was unwrapped, I eagerly went to load it on my computer.  I chose the "complete" install option since I want optimal performance.  The installation process was going alright until it reached 78%, when it froze the computer.  I restarted the computer, decided to do the "express" install option, so I would be able to uninstall the already installed files.  This worked like a charm, and all was uninstalled.  So then again I put in disk one, and started the installing process.  This install went fine, and FS9 is now on my computer.  I opened it once to just browse around the various options, and then exited the program since I had to leave.  I got home again and quickly got onto the computer to do some flying.  I put disk four in, and double-clicked on the FS9 icon.  The opening screen with the Douglas DC-3 came up, and then for about one second the regular "menu" page was up - the page with the tabs for "Fly Now", "Lessons", and so on.  I've tried to open FS9 through the icon, autorun, and also going through "My Computer" and finding the files - but to no prevail.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Just in case, these are my computer specs:
OS: Windows XP
CPU: 2.53Ghz Intel Pentium 4
RAM: 512MB DDR SDRAM memory
Hard Drive: 27GB available
Video: ATI Radeon 9200 AGP
Sound: DirectX 9 compatible

Thank you in advance,

Hi RS If you do this.....    Open fs9.cfg, and in the (startup) section change show_opening_screen=1 to show_opening_screen=0. Now, when you start the sim it will load the last saved flight that was set to default. thus bypassing those tedious set up pages....might help...you could also try throwing out the fs9.cfg altogether and let the sim make a new one....good luck..commoner ;)

Thanks commoner, changing that setting to "0" did work.  However, whenever I try to use the kneeboard or access the flight lessons my computer freezes.

Any solutions?

Thanks,

I would like to piggy back on this thread with the same issue.

I will also introduce myself, as this is my first post and I too just recieved the game for Xmas.  I am not so much a FS gamer yet, but I am a Pilot IRL and have always loved playing flight sim games.....

When I go to the kneeboard my game also locks up, I have installed the latest DL for the game via MS website, I have also installed the latest mother board software/drivers for my computer
HP laptop
AMD Athalon XP
1.8ghz
448 MB ram
Radeon IGP 320M video card with updated drivers

FWIW, I can play TRON 2.0 on this machine with no issues...so I assume its not a graphic issue....

I changed to XP recently. When I reloaded FS9 I was worned of my low grfxs cabability, I continued the install and then FS9 could not start up.
By chance I came across " SAFE MODE " in Start > Programs > Games, and by using this all the time FS9 works fine, barring the low grfxs.
Good luck

So you installed FS9 into Start>Programs>Games?
