Instrument Problem

Postby primomelon » Thu Dec 23, 2004 11:38 pm

I got the IFR frequencies from  FSCharts.com. I put the frenquencie for Palm Beach International (VOR-115.7, IFR 111.9) . When I put the IFR freq in nav 1 the DME does not work. It works if the VOR freq is in NAV 1. If I put the IFR freq in NAV 2 The glide path works in VOR 2 but the slope does not work. The VOR freq in NAV 2 the VOR works but the DME does not. I am a newbie and am thoroughly confused. I used FS in 1982 on qn Apple  but is was a lot simpler then. Any help you can give me in setting the instruments is appreciated, ALSO I can not get the ADF to work no matter what This post is confusing me. I hope sdomeone here is smarter than I am.

HELP!

Thanks.

Ok first off, when you say IFR you mean ILS.  ILS freqs go in the Nav 1 radio, and for you to track them your GPS/Nav switch MUST be set to Nav.  VOR freqs go in the Nav2 radio.  It must be set up like this!  For some reason fs won't realize it any other way (believe me, 20 mins ago I made the minor mistake of putting the ILS for 27L at PHL into the Nav2 radio, and it didn't pick it up).  ADF freqs go in the spot marked ADF (of course, just had to say it  :P) and on the jets look for the ADF pointer on the HSI (this circle thing with all the headings).  Could you specify what aircraft you are having these problems in?

embarasseden the ILS freq are in NAV 1? The dme only seems to work when the VOR freqs are there.

Oh, ok we're talking about cessnas here.  Not as familiar with FS cessnas.  First off, are you refering to the ILS DME or the VOR DME?  Not all VORs have DMEs, it either has to be a VOR/DME or a VORTAC.  In real life in a cessna, the VOR freq can go anywhere.  Just did a test run, here's how it goes.

Nav1-put in the VOR freq, go to map view and make sure it does indeed have a DME (it'll be a hexagon with a box around it)  Look up to the top right and there will be a screen that says --NM  --KTS --M.  This is where your DME equipment is.  Just below that screen will be a switch that has NAV1 on one side and NAV2 on the other.  make sure this is set to NAV1, because that is where the VOR is set.  Once you are airborne, it should pick up the VOR.  Hope that does it  ;D

Btw, not sure if ILS can only go in NAV1, didn't have time for an ILS but I'd assume it could go in either of the NAVs. ;)
