Ok, from my understanding of the question, yes the controller always talks, so long as you talk to him/her first  :P  As for runway lineup, you will only be aided in the event you have filed an IFR flight plan and recieved a clearance for that flight plan.  Then, ATC will get you on a basic heading for the runway but the actual job of turning onto final is up to you.  In the "create a flight plan" screen hit "flight planner" and in "choose flight plan type" hit IFR.  There ye go!  Just experiment a little bit, you'll become an expert in no time. :)

Air traffic controllers use verbal messages to get you where you need to go.. ;-)

Well i'm quite impressed with it actually cos they say any word that you want. I think it's one of those "Microsoft Sam" things. Cos i went into aircraft.cfg and changed the airline name to "funny name" and it sed it!

As for the in game ATC it's pretty good, they do everything, if you make a flight they'll direct you to anywhere, handoffs and everythingf, and the best part is you dont have to tune it in, it does it automatically.
Now if something goes without saying, then why do people say it??

The only problem Ive experienced with it is that sometimes it dosnt give an option to request landing. Oh and one time ATC cleard me and another plane at the same time for takeoff. I took off any way, then they kept saying "you were not cleared for takeoff", what was I supposed to do about it? put it in reverse and go back and wait my turn?

lol :D

and theres no option to report emergencies, they spent so much time on failures but you cant get help when there is one.

Yea, we all have our stories of horrendous ATC, but I'm sure we all agree it's just great that it's in there in the first place  :D  But yea, emergencies would be nice.  Hmm, maybe in 2006...
