My Hummelbird dies on engine startup [Crtl + E].  I have tried putting other aircraft on the rwy with engines started and they stay running, but when I switch back to my downloaded Hummel its prop is twirling for a few seconds and then dies, why is this happening ONLY to this aircraft?  

You need to throttle up a little, try 1/8 or 1/4 throttle.

..Yep..C_R has it..mine is the same, just a tad of throttle or she quits....commoner

...OR you could hit f3 (increase throttle) or f4 (full throttle) just after control+E..that works too

I dont have that problem with the Hummelbird, but I do with the Lancair Legacy..and yep just a bit of throttle will fix the problem  ;D

If you don't want to mess with your throttle each time you start FS 2004 do this:

1.)  Make a Backup copy of your Aircraft.cfg file for the aircraft in question.

2.)  Open the Aircraft.cfg file using MS Notepad.
Under the file heading [GeneralEngineData] look for a line that reads min_throttle_limit=

Whatever this number is, add about 0.1 to it.

Some aircraft come with the engine idle set to 0.00 or another low number so that the engine dies when idling.  If you increase the min_throttle_limit you increase the idle RPM of the engine about 10% and you should be fine.

If the engine does that, just don't close the throttle all the way...

Absolutely true JordonJ, however, I always forget and close the throttle all of the way down to idle after landing.  Then the engine goes fizzle, fizzle, floop and the prop stops (it actually makes that sound, I'm not kidding!).  Then you hear Dave saying something like "frizzkin grammle ramminschnatzing airplane!"  Then Tower ATC is calling "November 487 Foxtrot Tango please clear the runway"  and Dave is saying "ramma shettling gammarazzling engine.  Start!  Dang 'ya!  Start!"  And the ATC Controllers are all snickering at me as I finally get my engine started and taxi off of the runway.  It's all a really bad scene.

You can easily avoid being like Dave and do this simple adjustment to your Aircraft.cfg file.  That's right folks.  Don't be like Dave.

As for your suggestion, Commoner, in Texas here we don't have many cold and frosty mornings.  On those few rare occasions when we do I've found that about a quart of Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Black Label poured into the wing tanks sure warms up my airplane quickly.  It sure has that effect on me too.

There are two versions of the Hummelbird on simV. I had that problem a lot with the old yellow one "Ferns Hummelbird", but the new one that comes with 3 different paint schemes is totaly different. It was built from the ground up, and is not just an improvement on the old one. it still handles the same, but I never have the engine die like that anymore. Also, it has a pretty good VC.
