My problem is this: when I increase the throttles to taxi they keep going. I go faster and faster.  I've recallibrated my joystick (Wingman force 3D) several times and it doesn't do a thing for this. Any other ideas?

Hi what plane are you using: turbo props tend  to do as you're saying if you alter the prop setting from fast idle to slow idle (on the throttle quadrent) it should help. other wise I have no   idea. Regards Chris

As bad as it is, I sometimes set my AP and autothrottle through taxi.  lol

Lots of possibilities, ARFFguy.

1.  When you calibrate the joystick, and test the throttle, you should hear engine noise increasing and decreasing as you move the lever up and down.  Do you?  If not, try uninstalling and re-installing it.

2.  Jet engines (if you're using a jet) take quite a long time to spool up and down - like five or ten seconds.  Are you sure you're giving them enough time to spool down?  In any case, don't use full power for taxiing, not even to get on the move.

3.  Sounds silly - but have you left the auto-throttle on by mistake, or pressed TOGA?

4.  There'll be a sub-panel somewhere that you can call up, that will let you see the throttle levers.  That will soon tell you if the joystick control is working properly.

5.  If all else fails, F1 will cut the power, F3 will gradually increase it, F2 gradually decrease it.

If you are using a turbo prop, like the King Air, try feathering the props before you start to taxi..

When taxiing move the fuel condition lever to "low idle" but remember to set it back to "high idle" before taking off.

Sometimes it's just the joystick. I just got Flight1's ATR 72-500 payware. It has a brake warning light that will come on if you use the brakes too much. I found that the ATR would taxi at up to 30 kts even at idle right after I calibrated my joystick. The joystick calibration utility was just too coarse for the fine control that a detailed aircraft needs.

The ATR manual suggested that if you have a registered version of FSUIPC you can calibrate more precisely through that. I followed the instructions in the FSUIPC manual and now even the default King Air will coast to a stop when I shut down the throttle even with the props unfeathered.

I'm not sure about the other utility that does some of the same things as FSUIPC. It may offer the same calibration capabilities and it's freeware (no harm in trying). Either way one of the two should work.

I get the air bus moving by adding 50% then going down back at 10 just so it is rolling. A fast walking speed. any faster and you could end up tilting the plane while turning.

which is silly, I drive along side of aircraft from 747's to Piper Navajos and they all taxi (at Steven's Anchorage International) about 25 MPH on average, sometimes faster (in the case of Northern Air Cargo's 727's, DC-6's and ATR) and sometimes slower (Peninsula Air's Saab 340 and Metroliner). Hell, they TOW Alaska 737-2oo's faster sometimes down the taxiways!

May be in real life. but in flight sim anything cornering faster than 25 mph as a tendency of tilting. plus the fact of what you are seeing in FS9 look like walking but it is not. i have yet to see a MFD telling me anything under 25 and yet when you see it move you already need to apply breaks. straight line on long taxi way hey go a head. but you almost never get to taxi for long before crossing somthing that need you to look out for trafic. just how real you want to make it is up to you.

look like you never got in to a headon with AI.... Ground control are not that smart....
