ok since i formatted my hard drive and resintalled everything from scratch i have one quite big problem with fs9...it wont load extended textures on add on aircraft.. i know their extended because on my repaints if i save them as exteneded images they wont load but if i save as dxt3 they load fine. it tries to load them but to no avail and i have to alt tab out of it and close fs9

anyone have any ideas on this??? like i say its the first problem i have come across in fs9 and one which i would like to get solved because i have a lot of add ons for it plus my va rely's on extended images for the aircraft

system spec
xp2800+
1034 mb ram
geforce fx5950 ultra
latest drivers from nvidia 66.93
direct x 9.0b

nothing changed since it was working without a hitch except for format and reinstall of windows xp

thanks :D

Hi Daz. DXT3 is an Extended BMP format so I'm not sure what you mean by extended images. These problems are almost always caused by the type of video card, installed drivers & display settings or the FS9 display settings themselves. Some systems have problems with aircraft textures in certain formats for some unknown reason. Saving the offending textures without Mips or in 32-bit format seems to fix most of them

Ditch the mip-maps they suck and can cause blurry graphics until you zoom in and out.

Sounds to me like you are saving as 24bit textures and trying to apply these!  This will not work.  If you convert them to 32bit they would work but 32bit are a bit over the top as in use to much resources in the sim.

Saving as DXT3 is the best way IMO.  As said DXT3 is an extended file format, where as 24bit isn't.  So use DXTbmp and convert them to DXT3 with no mip-map layers.

also when i add some 3rd party aircraft namely posky & ifdg it does the same thing .. hangs because i think whatever textures are used arent loading properly

it tries to load them but it jsut doesnt show them although it shows the model perfectly.. strange

also taking a good 20 seconds to change from cockpit to outer views.

something deffinately not right as it used to show everything before and running perfect even when i saved my projects as "extended bitmaps"

Which texture converter are you using? If it's DXTBmp there's a whole range of different Extended BMP formats to choose from. DXT3 is just one of them.

yes its doing that intermitently as well......all goes blue...to solve that just alt tab to desktop and then alt tab back in...nice to find someone with same problem..i dunno how to solve it...

this is just an expample of my problem... the pmdg 737 when i install it whatever format the textures are in i cant get it to work i have to open up each texture and save it as dxt3 in dxtbmp and then they show fine. is it a problem with my sim not showing 32 bit textures ?

argh this is driving me nuts

Ah now I see your problem.  I haven't got a clue how to fix it though  :(

I thought it was re-paints you were struggling with but its aircraft that should work fine that aren't

Have you upgraded your vid drivers lately? if so try rolling back to the older ones.  Its unlikely you will be gaining anything from newer drivers now anyhow as they will more than likely just contain optimisations for the new 6000 series cards!

Try the 61.77 drivers and see what happens.  You will also need to use a program called DriverCleaner3 to get rid of your existing driver.  Boot into safe mode, use add/remove to uninstall vid driver.  Run DriverCleaner3 and remove any reminicents of nvidia graphic drivers.

Restart PC.  Click cancel when it says new hardware detected.  Install 61.77 drivers.

Dont worry about updating vid drivers anymore! just update DX when required.
