Help Unsupported Video Resolution

Postby photon » Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:44 am

I attempted to use an apparently unsupported screen resolution in my in game hardare settings and managed to create a jumbled mess of video noise and now everytime I try to load the game it is caught at that resolution. I checked my flight sim config file and it still says 1600x1200 so that is still good. I'm out of ideas short of reinstalling.

Did you check your Resolution settings in your Video Card? See what that is set up to.  If that won't fix it, try opening up your FS9.config file and scrolling down to the [Display] section and note the entry listed in "Mode=" under your Cideo card listing.

That's all I can think of. You shouldn't have to reinstall to fix this problemn.

Video card settings and resolution is fine...mode in my fs9.config still says 1600x1200x32 which is what I was running at fine before I tried to up it in the resolution settings in the game. That's when everything went screwy...I tried 1925x something screwy like that.

Did you try moving your Fs9.cfg file? Just find your file (there's a post in the FS2004 FAQ telling where to find it depending on your OS) and move it to the desktop or rename it Fs9_old.cfg. When you start the sim FS 2004 will rebuild the .cfg. You will loose all your settings in the sim but you can reset those if it fixes the problem.

Be VERY careful when messing with video settings. Make sure your video card fully supports the monitor you are using before making changes. It has been known to destroy, and turn seasoned gurus into nervous wrecks  ::) especially when trying to use anti-aliasing with a monitor that won't support it. Think about doing a low level re-formatting and recovering all that lost data. The cost is nothing compared to the effort required. :-[

also make sure there aren't two display settings in the fs9.cfg file.

I allways change the driver configuration within the fs9.cfg and when I do that it creates another entry for the resolution in the fs9.cfg, wich means that in the fs9.cfg, I'll have the previous setting for the resolution and if I scroll dwn a more, it'll also have the new resolution setting....

hope this is not too confusing..hehe

anyways hope it helps...
