Here's the deal, I have a female friend who has her private pilots liscense who says that the sim is very boring and would rather go fly a real plane any day...

I can't argue with her that the real world would always beat the sim any day, however she does not know the meaning of true flight simming...

1. She has no add-on planes
2. She has no add-on scenery
3. She has no joystick of yoke
4. She has not flown the sim in adverse weather
5. She has flown in the sim from only one airport

Your mission if you choose to accept it is to write a quick description of something that you thoroughly enjoy doing in the sim and why you think the sim is not boring.  

I'll also accept links to some of the best d/ls out there, as well as links to movies portraying the fun that is to be had in FS land.. ;-)

Unless she is "career bound"....... she may have a PPL.... but she is likely never to be sitting in the left seat of a 747...or any other "heavy metal".  get one of the "realish" versions that require a from cold startup and have her fly somewhere.  


Or how about dropping an F-16 onto a carrier deck?  Anotehr experience she is unlikely to ever get the chance to try in the real world.

And how often do you get to practice in "minimums" without worrying about your own a$$?  Mess up the weather to hearts content.... and test your skills.

Find someone with a realistic home simpit of a heavy metal aircraft......... as close as you'll likely get unless you know someone at a commercial flight trainig operation.

Better than real flying.... no.  Buit it ain't bad  ;).

No stick or yoke? How much realism can you expect from that?

I've been playing with another interesting tweak lately -  random system and instrument failures.  That should spice things up a bit.

And don't forget the choppers.

For God's sake Give her what she wants, don't argue, get out of the chair and go with her to fly for real. I'v fought and argued with both women and computers and you just can't win! Flying for real can be deadly. With the sim you can relax and if your depressed WELL....

I do go flying with her every chance I get, but I'm still trying to convince her that the sim is indeed another form of entertainment and not a big blog of files sitting on her hard-drive.. ;-)

Hey, if she's willing to pay for the AC rental and the gas, I wouldn't argue a bit with her.  A person like that may come in handy when practicing those touch and goes!  :)
