There are various add-on sunset/dawn packages available that might give you the effect you want. Best bet is to try them and find one you like, you'll find them here at SimV, and over at Avsim and Flightsim ;)

The picture you linked is a rather famous picture because it displays an optical phenomenon which has yet to be described.  Notice the reflection of the sun in the lower part of the picture.  Notice that the direct image of the sun is blocked by a thin upper cloud yet the bottom image is not obscured by this same cloud.  This isn't a water reflection, and it's not a lense effect (the top cloud isn't reflected in the lower sun image).  Some believe it to be a refraction effect, however this also doesn't explain the absence of the top cloud.

So nobody knows why the photo turned out the way it did.  Maybe someone's explained it since last I heard.

Is there only me who thinks the sunsets and rises in FS9 are amazing anyway!? I was astounded when I took off at dawn from an overcast Heathrow, broke through the clouds and saw my first fs9 sunrise. I thought it was amazing. the Sunsets are even better if you ask me!!!!! Easily impressed? perhaps.

As the add-on scenery and people in this board have proven, you can improve many aspects of FS9.  But I still have to agree with you, the amazing details and effects that sunrise/set have in this sim really do make the experience.

I think one of my favorites was chasing the sun with the Concorde and watching the sun RISE from the west.
