Sudden drop in framerates

Postby chomp_rock » Wed Nov 24, 2004 12:48 pm

I'm having a very odd problem with FS9. No matter what my graphics settings are my framerates stay below 7FPS! The problem just started this monday, before Monday I was getting constant framerates above 18FPs with all sliders (except mip mapping and 3D clouds) maxed. I've tried everything I know how to do, nothing helps! The odd thing is that I installed Windows XP SP2 on Sunday but I don't have the firewall or automatic updates running so I have a hard time believing it is SP2. Please help me out here!

System Specs:
P4 2.0GHz
1Gb PC2700RAM
GeForce FX5200 (256mb) @ AGP4x
36.7Gb ULTRA 320 SCSI C: Drive
40Gb ATA100 D: Drive
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
GeForce FX5200 256Mb
1GB DDR400 DC
Seagate 500Gb SATA-300 HDD
Windows XP Professional X64 Edition

That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they

hmm the same thing happened to me try this to see if it solves your problems

from the FS9 front page go into

settings -> Display -> Hardware ->

If "Transform and lighting" is unchecked, check it

that fixed the problem for me it would be worth a try ;D
Believe half of what you see, 1/4 of what you hear, and nothing that I say

As mentioned before, no matter what the settings it is unbelievably low. T&L included. Thanks for trying though...

I uninstalled SP2 and it did not fix the problem but I conclude that it did cause it in the first place after extensive research. I DO NOT reccomend installing SP2 on your gaming PC unless it is really high end machine, IT REALLY SCREWS YOUR PC PERFORMANCE >:(

Follow up and bump:

I just found that System restore no longer works on my PC because of SP2! After doing everything I know how to do to get the pc working normally It still gets <7FPS with minimum FS9 graphics settings. My advice to anyone considering installing SP2:
DON'T DO IT!
SP2 Screwed my PC up big time and could do it to yours to!

SP2 = Service Pack 2 for windos XP

I agree I dont think installing SP2 on your exisiting system is a good idea.  I will say if you re-format then the first thing you did is put SP2 on it then after that install all drivers, i.e. mobo/graphics etc etc  you will probably not have a problem.

I did it this way when I tried SP2, I did a format then installed it first b4 anything else.  I had no problems with anything doing it that way.  Though since then I have re-formatted again due to doing the FS-GS service and didn't put SP2 back on.

I'm not going to install SP2 again, even after I reformat today.

SP2 is a real pain the neck.
We uploaded it when it came out. Everything fine. A month later we started having problems with our computers talking. (We've three connected up). One was completely down, and one kept working intermitently. After lots of time etc it turns out that SP2 is to blame. It seems as if the problem comes out some time after it is installed. There is a web page devoted to it. Me and my Dad flipped when we found out.
Stupid Micro$oft. With all those Billion$ he's got and he still can't put something long overdue together without serious bugs in it. >:(
Here is the link about SP2 and its problems:

EDIT: Sorry- didn't get to put it on - I had to leave the 'puter.
I couldn't find the one I was looking for either, biut here is one. Type in SP2 problems and see what comes up... its awful!

I can safley say after months of trying to get SP2 working correctly with games and simple software, thats SP2 is best avoided, i mean it really screws around with stuff, SP1 is stable and you can still get updates for it on the windows update page, so really do stay away from SP2...its THE DEVIL!!!!
