Disappearing textures

Postby xmit » Thu Nov 25, 2004 4:35 pm

I'm new to FS9 and notice that the textures to the AI & user a/c disappear. I don't remember the problem in FS2002. It's not just default aircraft, it also happens with add-on AI & user aircraft. Is there a setting I'm missing or something? DougD

Disappear or go extremely blurry (what I call a splat)?

Try posting a screenshot so we can see what you're talking about.

They totally disappear so you only see the model. sorta like when you forget the texture code of a repaint in the aircraft.cfg. But that isn't it. They're there and then they disappear when you pan around or switch views. It's really weird.

What I would recommend is going into the sim and under assignments I would create a key assignment for the refresh scenery or whatever it is called.

I use control+shift+R

when this problem occurs hit your key or sequence of keys and let us know what happens after that.

Right now it seems like the system gets busy trying to keep up and doesn't know what to do... ;-)

I couldn't find "refresh" under assignment options. Also the textures are gone from all the aircraft (other than the one you were just flying) in the aircrfat selection screen when you exit your flight. I'm at-a-loss. My video card (GeForce4 Ti 4600 128mb) appears to be working fine. I'm getting 20-25fps at KORD. My system specs are 2.8mhz P4 w/ 1024mb RAM. I'm also going to try a google search.

OK, what version DirectX are you running? Are we running the lastest video card drivers, and what are the settings for aircraft under the display category in settings?

Thanks Jared, I think it's DirectX 9, it came with FS2004. The others I'll have to get back to you. DougD

OK, if you are still running the version that came with the sim I would recommend getting the newest version from microsoft.  There are several different ways of doing this.

If you have Windows XP you should be able to run windows updates and find it in a list of recommended files for your system.

If you can't findd it there, or are running a different version of windows you can always go to the microsoft web-site... ;-)

AIRCRAFT: Global aircraft quality: high, VC gauge quality: high, Reflections: on, Aircraft cast shadows: on, Landing lights: on.
HARDWARE: 1024x768x32, Render to texture: on, Transform & lighting: on, Anti-aliasing: on, Filtering: Trilinear, MIP mapping: 6, Hardware rendered lights: 6, Global max texture size: medium.........Whatever all that means. The video has never been updated. It's the original that came with my PC.

Jared, I think I found the problem. I changed by system performance options from "system cache" to "program".  I found the fix in the Avsim forums. Thank-you Zevious

That's good to hear...Glad you were able to get it working again... ;-)

May I recommend that you disable anti-ailising in the sim, and make sure that it is turned on in your video card settings? This will provide better visual and performance results... ;-)
