Helicopter Sounds & Rotor speed

Does anyone know why on some helos the following occurs:-

When  rotor speed is varied by use of F2 and F3 or by the mouse on the collective twist grip, the sound does not follow the increase or decrease in rotor speed.

For example the Mil M1 8 by Vladimir Zhyhulskiy does not change the throttle sound note when altering rotor speed ( or most of the time it doesn't, sometimes it does work!). Other helos using the same sound files work ok.

Also even when you shut down and the rotors eventually stop the sound continues at 100% revs

Where does the fault lie here? Is it in the Aircraft file or the air file. I am using the sound file from the Super Puma, but it behaves like this with any sound file I have tried.

What mods do you need to do to add working start up and shutdown sounds helo sound files?

The problem is in the aircraft/name_of_aircraft/sound folder.  Or more particularly, in the sound.cfg file.

Backup the sound.cfg file and write a new one which aliases an acceptable sound package.  If you like you can eventually dump the offensive sound package.

Here's an example of an aliased sound.cfg file

[fltsim]
alias=Bell206b\sound

Actually in helis you want the rotor RPM to be constant at all throttle settings. The engine can change RPM's but rotor RPM should be constant (usually around 1800-2000rpms). If rotor RPM falls then helis have a hard time staying in the sky.   ;D

Jbrundt,

You are correct of course (when you are in flight) .

However even on modern turbine helos where there is  a rotor governor to keep constant rotor speed, there is always a twist grip throttle on the collective to reduce power and hence torque or manifold pressure to allow the rotor ( and poer plant ) to slow down when you are idling on the ground. On FS ctrl+F2 and ctrl F3 simulates this throttle.



On some helos such as the Robinson R22 , you must disconnect the rotor governor by Shift+,  first.

It is this reduction in rotor speed on ground idle and a commensurate change in the sounds that we are trying to acheive
