When I 1st started flying in the late 50's, it was fun at 1st, but started to get to be real work, especially when the CFO got me to do it all again and again and again. "Dam this flying thing, it's not all it's cracked up to be." said I. Well, each step along, it got to be harder work, until it became almost automatic. No doubt you've heard of the "seat of the pants" thing? Well, that don't always work, that's why the instruments. Personally, that's why I fly the sim, to hone up the instrument skills, cuz there's no seat of the pants feeling left. Long haul pilots often said that flying was hours of boredom punctuated by moments of shear terror. Stick at the instrument thing and you won't get bored anyway.
