Trying to install the SRTM terrain.....need help

Postby Strat919 » Wed Nov 10, 2004 6:28 pm

Hey everyone....Im a newbie at all this:SRTM terrain) Im trying to install the SRTM terrain for a few areas. Seems like it installed ok, but how do you use it? Does it become the default terrain for the area that you installed it for? I went to an airport closeby where I live and it is very hilly there, but in MS flight simulator it is totally flat. Does the SRTM terrain replace the original terrain even at the airports? Help please:)

the terrain is replaced everywhere, even at airports, which can lead to unpleasent effects (airport on a plateau etc). But where did you get that MESH from? Anyway: Just create a new folder in your Addon Scenery-Folder, name him as you like and create two subfolders in it named "texture" and "scenery". You have one or more .bgl files; put all of them in the "scenery" folder. launch fs9, go to settings an then scenery library. activate your scenery by chosing the folder you just created, cklick ok, exit fs9, relaunch and it should be there!

Hi there,

if you are using Stephen Rothlisberger's "Global Mesh" here at simviation it is indeed possible that your particular area remains "flat" even with a sucessful installation of the respective mesh file. Unfortunately, Stephen's commendable work comes with a grid of major gaps in the compiled mesh. See my post and screenshots here: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az= ... 2210&page=

Sorry about the bad news. I can't positively say that this issue occurs in all of his files but I've looked at three of them and all showed the same pattern.

Cheers, Holger
