Pretty new need help. With auotpilot...

Postby Tanner8 » Sat Nov 06, 2004 5:50 pm

Hey, With autopilot after making a flight plan in stead of using your gps the whole way through to navigate can you set somthing so it automatically follows the line for you?? I set the head but the line usually isnt in one straight direction so is there some easier way where it can just follow the line? Thanks

Ps. Whats the revers thrust button?? Thanks :)

Which aicraft are you flying? Not all of the airplanes will have a GPS unit, or they may have different units.

On most aircraft you will find a GPS/NAV toggle switch. You will want to flip the switch to the GPS setting, then in your autopilot be sure to tell it to follow the NAV, not the heading.  Heading willonly fly in a straight line whereas a NAV setup will track along the gps line all the way to the destination.

As for the reverse thrust, you should be able to pull throttle all the way back (F1) then press and hold the F2 key, as long as you don't have a mis-configured joystick with throttle...

Hope this helps,

Jared

Basically, set the GPS/Nav mode switch to GPS and hit the NAV switch on your autopilot bar (with ap command on and f/d on of course).  Voila.

Think of the GPS/NAV selector  switch as 2 different sources from which the aircraft uses to navigate.
GPS= follows the GPS flightplan, wpt after wpt
NAV= radio navaids. Use this to fly a VOR radial or Localizer course (ie ILS approach)

Now the actual NAV button on the autopilot engages the SELECTED nav mode (GPS or radio navaid, remember :) )

So if you want to fly the whole flight plan automaticly you will choose GPS as navigation source and then push the "NAV" button on the autopilot panel.

But if you want to fly VOR-VOR for example, you must select NAV instead of GPS, tune in your desired frequency in the radio stack and course in the "course" window and then push the NAV button on the AP panel

I know this is confusing in the beginning, but hang in there buddy  :)

First of all, which aircraft are we talking about here?
The 360 you are refering to may be the Course hold.
But those digits are obsolete if you want to fly the GPS flight plan

You will use Course Hold when flying VOR or ILS approaches, ie Radio navigation, but not for use with GPS ;:)
