Lockheed SR-71

Postby Lonewolfeee1 » Sat Oct 30, 2004 8:46 pm

I downloaded the SR-71 for fs9.  I would really like to know how to get rid off the blue engine flames as they stay on even when the engine is turned off.  Any help with this would be appreciated.  There is no e-mail in the plane folder to contact any of the designers of this aircraft.  If you have flown it then you know it is very unstable at top speeds and hard to slow at landing.  I have managed to work on that and have it flying very stable and VERY fast.  Now I would like to get rid of the blue gawdy engine flames and maybe add some true to life engine effects.  Please help.  May be we can get an SR-71 freeware version that really works good.  Thanks,  Lonewolfeee1

Where exactly did you get this little piece of hardware?  That will help us understand how to help you.

But just taking some guesses:

Try turning on and off the lights, see if that makes a difference.

If that doesn't work, its most likely part of the model or an effect.  The effect should run off an XML gauge, and if that isn't set up right, then it won't work.

Give me a URL to where I can download this so I can take a look at the package.

Ender you can find the Sr-71 here:   http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military13.htm  right at the top of the page.  Thanks.  LW1

I use the same AC in FS02 and I have not seen the blue flame promblem you speak of.  Mine go off an on in synch with the afterburners.  Perhaps you installed the gauge files incorrectly.

I haven't flown it recently but I will do so tomorrow.  I have found that most AC that claim to be stable at 50,000 ft + are not really that stable.

As far as landing I recall this one as a big improvement over the other SR-71's I've seen (sorry Ric), which were almost impossible to land.

I understand that, but these stay on no matter what - I think they might be part of the MDL file??  I really don't know.  One large aircraft you might like to fly is the XB-70.  You can find it here:  http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military12.htm   - It's halfway down the page called the XB-70 Valkyrie.  Very nice and very stable at high altitude and high speed.  Massimo (the designer) worked with me on getting afterburner effects put on this one.  I don't know if he has added them to the regular download or not since.  Try it, you might like it.  As for the SR-71  I tried the lights switch to no avail.  Also - Gauge 47 in the Panel config is linked to RCB gauges folder - tried deleting that entry also to no avail.

If it just won't go away, like an unruly child, then it is in the model file. Nothing can be done to completely eliminate this one.

I have, with another acft. that had the cheapo ABs in the model file, went ahead and added my own ABs. These would be Jan Rosenberg's I believe, originally for the Typhoon and Viper. But with some playing around, I pretty much got the cheapo ABs hiddin withing the nice looking ones.

Well I tried the I key - didn't work.  As for the flames Fireman these are HUGE AND GAWDY.  I don't think anything would cover them up.  Can you edit a MDL file?

I don't know if you can. With the proper program I guess you could.

Funny, I downloaded that acft. from your link. I have NO landing gear, no ABs and it flies like a brick and only reach an IAS of around 1300 + a tad knots.

Cockpit is nice and sound is nice. IN the acft. cfg, one of the fx called for is an fx_srvapour. Zip only came with one fx file, a smoke file which displays properly.

Rather disappointed in the bird myself.

Yes it is a dog out of the box.  I've played with it and have it flying very stable at Mach 4+.  I noticed that fx_srvapour. Zip myself and have no clue.  I don't know why you're not seeing the landing gear - but did you see the blue flame stacks?  blaaaack!

No, didn't see the blue flame for the ABs. No landing gear either. Don't know what the deal is there.

Do you have this entry in panel.cfg (the number may be different)

gauge38=rcb-gauges!FlameAndAfterburnerEffectControl,  368,373,44,30

and the rcb-gauges folder?
