I cant land military jets

Postby Ben_M_K » Thu Oct 21, 2004 12:00 pm

>:( I cant land military jets. By the time I'm slow enogh to touch down it seems I stall and crash. Can someone give me some tips on how to land stuff like F-16s. Or at least get me a link that says how. I'm a bit frusturated.

Ben its a matter of practice, try and hold it about 20knts above stall speed once you are in-line with the runway.

I'm so glad I can help some one finally!!!!!!

Your having the same problem I had, When you take off, (Before you start to move at all) bring the gear in, that's right, the sim won't alow it untill you in the air, but when you leave the gound you're gear will go up..... any way, do that and when you start your take off, watch your gear indicater, and pull back all the way, when it says the gear are retracting check your air speed. That speed is your landing speed.... When you are approacing keep the speed about 10 or 20 over the landing speed, and don't let the nose drop more than 10 degrees (Fighters are hard to flare at low speed) When it is time to flare (There should be a light that comes on when your close to the ground) hit the airbrake and pull back hard, (payclose attention to your hud, and only your hud) Your nose has got to get above the artificial horizon at least 5 degrees or it is nose into the ground and of coars brake to a stop.

Don't get frustrated, and this takes a litle trial and error but it is easy when you can understand it. remember all planes are different, and some of the noses drop be low the wings, so you'll have to flare harder on those.

Hope  this helps

A good approach (no pun intended) to practicing (after of course reading up and finding out the limits of your craft)  is to 'Request Takeoff - Remain in Pattern' and keep doing touch and gos until your fuel is low, then request full stop landing.

If you feel like you need more practice, or just want to do another round of passes, refuel (grabbing a coffee might help too) and send 'er back skywards.

Keep doing this and you'll be able to fly (and land) like a champ!

If tour new to the f -16.....try and keep it above 170 Knts when landing....20 percent flaps and an angle of + 10 degrees.......try not to use airbrakes until you have all three weels on ground.......and just practice......practice makes champ

I just tried some touch and go's as you said JRoc and watched my landing speed and all that as you said Hanzaki. Out of 5 TNG's one of them was perfect. I'm definatly getting better. It seems to be one of the toughest yet rewarding things in the game. Once again, thanks for all your help.

I have found they are a bit tricky but with a lil practice you will get the hang of it  ;D

I didn't read the other discussion but the one thing that's very important to know is when you're coming in to land, your elevators and thrust work backwards.

Use thrust to climb or decsend and elevator to increase or decrease speed.

That's all I have time for now as I'm on my way to work.

You know, Military pilots get court-martialed for that...  :)

Realyy? Why, this is just a sim, so I think he'll be fine  ;D Plus military pilots have all the speed info for there planes, alot of the add on planes don't come with papers  ;D
