Refueling

Postby wilderobb » Sun Oct 17, 2004 12:44 pm

Good Morning! My question is why do some of my planes refuel and others won't. Is there is a file change to do this?     PS. I would search the site myself but I don't know how.  Thanks in advance and for this forum!

Are you referring to the aircraft refueling stations at airports?  They should work on any and all aircaft that enter those zones.  Just park the aircraft there and then set the parking brake.  They should refuel.

If you want to search the forums, check underneath your forum name and messages counter at the top of the page.  "Search" is what you are looking for.

wilderobb, if you mean that some of them don't refuel at the refuelling station,  you are probably not getting them close enough.  Use the outside view to get REALLY close, then go back to the cockpit and watch the gauges.  If nothing happens, get even closer!  Sometimes there's a slight timelag, too.

The other way to refuel is to go to 'Aircraft/Fuel/Fuel', and just enter 100% in all tanks.

Ok. I'll try again. I'm sure I was close. In fact I found a while back that I could taxi right through em. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough. I'll try again and let you know what happens. Thanks for being around.

I'm back!   I tryed two planes. One I know refuels and one that won't. I hung around for ten min. with the one that won't and still no go. I tryed the settings and the CFG. file. but still no refuel. Could it be that I have a different panel for it? The plane in question is a Gulf IV with a delux lear panel. I also changed the fuel settings in the CFG. file. and gave it more fuel. But then again I have the same problem with a couple of others I didnt mess with. :)

Regardless of what panel you are using, ANY aircraft should refuel there.  Changing the fuel settings in the config file shouldn't change that.  Were you trying to follow Nav's advice?  If so, he meant go into the dropdown menus while IN FLIGHT and select Aircraft/Fuel and a small fuel menu will appear, listing all the fuel tanks of the aircraft and how much is in them, how much they can hold, etc.  Just enter 100% in the percentage column of each tank and your aircraft has effectively been refueled.

I would DEFFINITELY recommend that you go back to the aircraft settings you change and put them back to normal, as changing the fuel can seriously offset the balance and takeoff weight of the aircraft.

In flight or on the ground, Ender.  I don't usually bother taxiing to the fuel pumps, and smaller airfields don't always have them anyway.  Quicker just to call up the Fuel Panel.

I have noticed in the past year and a half of FS9ing, that there are a couple of planes that will not refuel at the stations. cant remember off hand which ones but I have seen this before. Even being on top of the fuel station, they would not fill up.

These are the planes that have the liveries of airlines that are in Chapter 11.  Their credit is no good.  You have to pay cash in advance  ;).

You're honestly better just using the refuel screen.  While some people argue its cheating, it's really not.  Even at some of the smaller airports, they have a truck that can come to you normally.  Before anyone can jump on me, they don't ALWAYS have one but most do.  Sounds like you don't have much of a choice anyway!

Thanks a million for all your help. I did'nt know about the drop down menu fuel reference. I'll probably just go ahead and use the menu when I need. Most of the time I switch to my favorite single engine APM 20 Lionceau after I get there anyway. (The Lionceau does refuel.)  As to adding fuel to the Cfg. file, yes I did go overboard once and was lucky to get it off the ground. Then on landing the landing gear broke! But I'v not noticed any problem so far if I'm carefull. So in closing the more I learn..... Thanks again one and all.

There is also the possibility that the pump doesn't provide the right fuel for the aircraft. I ran into this on my first pole-pole attempt. Depending on the airport's facilities; some pumps will provide only avgas; some only jet fuel. Wilderobb: The two planes you tested: Was the first plane - the one that did refuel - a piston engine? If so; the pump you're trying to use doesn't dispense kerosene and therefore won't help much.

It helps to know in advance what fuel facilities an airport will have while cross-countrying; use the GPS to etermine which airfields have the fuel you need. :)

That is; if you don't want to use the fuel panel - I never do personally myself. :)

Cheers!

I never really gave fuel type much thought! You could well be right. Every day I'm amazed at the level of reality. Both in life and this sim.  By the way it's the Gulf IV that won't refuel. I'l try out what you suggest. Thanks a lot!!!  ;D
