Problem with visibility@low alt in fullscreen?

Hi there,

This is a strange little problem that has been bugging me for a while. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated!

Using (for example) Kirk's F-16, I will take off in weather that has limited visibility (10/30/50miles, doesn't matter). Everything is smooth and fine. I will climb just above the limited visibility weather, again everything is fine. Then I will dive back toward the deck into the limited visibility weather and I notice that the graphics are not visually smooth. Its hard to describe, so I have included a picture sequence below. Anyway, to correct this problem I hit "alt" and switch off "fullscreen". Everything smooths out and I then set "fullscreen" back on and away I go. That is until I dive into the limited vis weather again. Is there any other way to fix this other than switching off "fullscreen". I run the sim at 1250x1024x32. My desktop is set to 1024x768x32 but it is never a problem. I tried matching the resolutions, but it did not help. I run the game in fullscreen mode and have all settings maxed. There is no effect on performance during this odd transition. See my sig for specs. Any help would be appreciated!

#1- After takeoff while scenery is smooth and fine

#2- Climb out of limited visibility weather, everything is still good

#3- Dive back into weather and I see this!!

#4- Hit "alt" and turn off "fullscreen" then resume and everything is back to normal??!!

FS9 takes timet to render things depending on your hardware...

Thanks JordonJ, but I don't think this has to do with rendering. I think it has to do with "fullscreen" mode and my graphics card settings or something. It can't be hardware. My computer renders everything so fast, its ridiculous!!

Eric,  this could be a sort of geometry problem!

Ground mist gives pilots a peculiar (and often dangerous) problem.  From a height, you can see all the details on the ground.  But as you lose height (for example in a landing approach) you are of course looking through the mist at an angle - instead of looking straight down through say 300 feet of mist, you are looking diagonally through up to a mile of it!

It's a very common cause of landing accidents, because you can lose all sight of the runway halfway through the approach.

I suspect that FS is trying to reproduce this effect.  And not making a terribly good job of it!

Hi EricK
The 3rd screen shot looks like the problem some ATI cards have Ive never heard of or seen this with Nvidia cards. But anyway the fix is to add

TableFog=0 under the
DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XP

Thanks alot for the reply Mav.

I think you may be on to something. I had a feeling it had to do with the "fog table" setting. I remembered seeing that a long time ago but couldn't rememeber the details. I'll give it a go!

Thanks again
Eric
