Is there a way to add the smoke system that some of the FS9 aircraft have to other aircraft in your fleet.

Well, its a bit complicated, so I'll do you a solid. ;D  Tell me which aircraft you want to add smoke to, and I'll do it for you.

Or if you REALLY want to do it yourself, I guess I could do a rough explanation.  But if you are unfamiliar with the aircraft config file, you might not want to jump in with smoke systems.

I do have experience messing with the .cfg files for different aircraft.  Nothing too complicated so far but enough to know my way around the .cfg file.

Excellent!  That makes this much easier.  Okay, I'm gonna assume that you know how to edit position numbers for things like the weight and the contact points.  If this is the case, simply copy the [smokesystem] section of the Extra 300 config to the one you wish to add smoke to.

Enter FS and notice where the smoke shows up on the aircraft.  If it isn't right, just exit and edit the numbers a little.  Unfortunately, FS doesn't recognize the longitudinal reference.  So that has to be edited in the smoke config itself.  For that, I'll have to do another post.

I'll be back in a little bit . . .

Actually, forget my last post.  Just check this link:

http://www.simviation.com/fs2002misc9.htm

There's a dynamic smoke system with installation instructions there.

Thanks for the link.  I'll try that but first I have a question.

Here is the smoke section from the SuperHornet's .cfg flile:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=0, -24.00, -1.65, fx_smoke_eng_fa18
smoke.1=0, -24.00,

those to me look like the cordenents for the engin. Go in to the game and test it out. If the smoke is black then just change the fx_smoke_engin.fx and replace it with the fx_smoke_w but don't change any numbers.

The two sections with the // before them are probably what the author used to calibrate the smokesystem (much like I was going to tell you to do), and it seems they forgot to erase them after they were done.
