Hey guys,

Am normally a fixed wing jock on the sim but have been messing with helo's recently but I have a problem that when I do a cold start and sometimes when swapping between helo's (and fixed wing) that most of my choppers have very low NR's and N2 which means I generally cannot get lift. Ok I have tried shutting down and restarting but to no avail and I have the turning knob that would be asociated with prop pitch (on fixed wing) etc set at the correct setting... someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

It depends on the helicopter; but using 'CTL-E' sometimes doesn't always work. For some of the heavies - such as the Blackhawk - it never works.

Here's what you do:
1) Master switch on, all others off.
2) Set your prop pitch to min. (SHF-F1) (I'm not completely sure what that is in the sim; it ain't the collective, though.)
3) Set your mixture to full rich (CTL-SHF-F4) (I'm assuming this is throttle for the helo.)
4) Hit the starter.
5) As the blades begin to rotate; gradually increase throttle - just a bit - until you see the RPM begin to rise.
6) As it rises; set mixture full lean. (CTL-SHF-F1) This'll bring your engine to idle.
7) All switches to ON. Cycle the Master switch - at least in mt sim; the battery has a tendancy to go dead if you don't. Dunno why.
8 ) Increase power to max; and you're ready for takeoff.

Hope this helps!
