My version of fs9.exe no cd for for fs 2004 ver 9.0 is 516096 bytes 13 june 2003 05:07:49. Do you know a new version compatible with the patch 9.1?

Heya Ninive,
As far as I know there isn't one yet. Keep checking here at SimV. I'm sure some enterprising person will post one within the next few days.

9.1 installed cleanly over the no-CD FS9 and still runs without a CD.
No problems here (yet!).

Heya XTP,
I don't see how. The FS 2004 9.0 No CD Patch is a modified FS9.exe file. One of the things that the new FS 2004 9.1 updates does is to install a new FS9.exe file. When the FS 2004 9.1 Update is installed and you have the No CD Patch you should get an error message. If you use the FS 2004 9.0 No CD Patch with the 9.1 update there could be issues.

Are you sure it did install a new fs9.exe? Certainly my file date didn't change.
I didn't see any FR improvement so I'm only expecting to see the visual changes eg bridges (which are excellent from what I've seen so far in the UK). I don't see how the visual enhancements can be negated by using the no-CD version of fs9.exe. It's like saying that scenery you've installed will disappear.
The visual enhancements result from bgl file changes in Scenery and Scenedb and I guess the seasonal thing is a texture change (although I never experienced the problem). so using the no-CD version of fs9.exe cannot eradicate those.

Just for clarification--
According to three sources that I have found if you use the No CD Patch for version 9.0 after the FS 9.1 update has been installed you can lose some of the updated improvements.
In this thread Felix/FFDS SimV Forum Moderator writes:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=COF;action=display%20;num=1097279468Note that if you have the no-CD file, some of the enhancements may not appear;.....
Also, it's interesting that the way the readme is written basically infers that they know there are 3rd party programs that "change" the FS9.exe file, so while not a tacit "blessing" it's a recognition that there is such a file "out there" ... It's also saying, don't come crying to us if you reinstall the no-cd file and the enhancements/FS9.1 doesn't work!
From the Known Issues Document MS included with the FS 9.1 update download:
NOTE: This FS9.EXE will require a CD in the drive for Flight Simulator to run. If any action (such as re-installing a modified FS9.exe via a 3rd party add-on software installation) causes an overwrite of the updated FS9.EXE, you will lose significant fixes included in the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update).

commoner,
What you did SHOULD result in seeing few differences! You installed the NEW fs9 file... and then wrote the OLD fs9 file right OVER it... thereby erasing it and replacing it. So what you have is what you started with for the fs9.exe file. The only stuff that will be there is the stuff that is NOT changed in the exe file...or that is not "called" by the changes to it.

This is why I think that you shouldn't install the new FS 2004 9.1 FS9.exe and then overwrite it with the OLD 9.0 FS9.exe No CD Patch.

I found that out the hard way. I installed the patch, FS9 would still run with no-cd, but no FPS enhancements. I took a load of files out including the update, then after piecing it back together i have update 9.1 on there now, i need to update FSUIPC so that it will work. Apart from that it has been a good update, FPS went up a small but notable amount, also scenery improvements are good. I currently have to use a cd, since i have 2 drives and one is hardly ever used unless i copy a cd i just leave it in there.

Hi all.
First, congratulations to the moderators of this forum for allowing posts concerning the No CD file. Nearly everyone else has banned any mention of it.
I installed the patch to a fresh install of FS9. I flew for a bit with the annoying 'disk4 in the CD' restriction. I then copied the No CD file ( renaming it as FS9.exe )
There are NO issues with the No CD. None. It works perfectly. There are no lost performance gains or any loss of any other "fix" enhancements.
The statements that there will be loss of performance is either a "scare tactic" or misunderstanding, by Microsoft, of what the NoCD file actually does.
I challenge ANYONE to prove just what is lost by using the NoCD file, applied after the patch. If the No CD didn't work, then the sim would crash!
The No CD file is fine.

Well, I tried it and I lost the slight gain in FPS that I got with the patch. It also crashed to desktop twice in the 20 minutes that I used the old no-CD patch. I uninstalled the no-CD and now it works fine.

I'm exactly with rhumbaflappy on this one. I have had zero problems & put it down to either scare tactics or lack of understanding by M$.

Do you have add-on scenery installed? Did you have to repair any of that?

Following on the query from jordonj, from garymbuska's post, I also have had no problems.........I simply loaded it down over my existing no patch set-up and away it went. I have "heaps" of add-ons, both scenery and everything else - no probs, and yes, I can see the new bridges.
