Have to say the de Havilland DH 88 is looking good. I've never seen one on FS, and I've been fascinated by them since I was a little kid as we used to go to Hatfield a lot (it was BAe there in my time though not DH), and there was a hotel with a big model one on a pole outside.

yes it is a great looking bird, although i don't know much about. i have no idea what this plane did historically, and why the are inluding it in ACOF. could somebody fill me in on this plane?

The DH.88's (The Original "Comet")  claim to fame was as a long-dsitance racer.  A Comet won the 1934 MacRobertson race from London to Melbourne (Australia, not Florida).  Only a few were built, not more than 5, from my count, of which "Grosvenor House" is preserved by the Shuttleworth Trust.

Did you know that the Dh88 flew at 28miles to the gallon. That made it the most fuel efficiant aircraft in the London to melbourne race. Thats more fuel efficiant than most american cars!

woody, most cars i here get in the high 20's in mpg

Cars on average here get around the 40mpg. Some Audis can get 90mpg though.

well, the comet was quit an interesting plane. it was the first passenger airliner with turbofans. the plane, built by DeHavilland was very succesfull. they sold many of them, but they felt out of the sky as bricks. lots of them crashed, even during good weather conditions. so after a while they had to stay on the ground. DeHavilland put one in a water basin to test what went wrong. after a while the cabin 'collapsed' and they came to the conclusion that they weren't built strong enough (quit symplistic, sorry) so they started building a stronger version with a stronger cabin, better resist to several weather conditions, but no one was interested anymore: boeing started selling their 707 at that time!

Wrong comet i'm afraid Tounge_of_Colicab. The DH88 Comet won the london melbourn race in the fastest time on record in 1934 I think. It was a small twin engined aircraft.

See... I think you made a small error.

P.s. the Comet you were talking about was a rushed project. It was underpowered and had a tendancy to self distruct after to many hours on the airframe. I think 4 tore themselves apart before they were grounded and basically rebuilt. In the end it was a faliure.
