ILS Landings

Postby RobertSubnet » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:47 am

Hello all.

I'm trying to learn ILS landings. The glidescope I seem to have down pretty good. However my localizer is not lining up.

What I'm doing is dialing in the ILS freq on Nav 1. The HSI is set to NAV (as opposed to GPS). While the glidescope seems to work, the localizer is totally pointing the wrong way.

What am I doing wrong? (I cheated and looked at the GPS, I flew right down the "feather.")

Thanks for your help.

Did you dial in the course of the runway in the course selector? While this isn't essential, it's really useful to help you line up with the runway exactly.

Zcotto: Actually I didn't dial in the course. I'll give that a try. For some reason I was thinking the localizer would act like a ADF needle once the ILS frequency was dialed in to the nav radio.

WJI: thanks for the link, I'll take a look at it.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
