Hi,

I recently installed sygate personal firwall (free) becaus i heard it was better than zone alaram. It installed fine, rebooted and BOOM! It crashed. Before i even saw the desktop. I tried numerus things to get in but failed. Then using safe mode i tried uninstalling. Anyway to cut a long story short the only solution was to use system restore. Which i did. It seamed sygate had made a restore point when it installed itself. So i though everything was back to normal.  :(

That was until i did some simming. I booted fs9 and it just froze on the splash screen. Tried again. Uninstalled. Installed. Still doesnt work. WHAT HAS SYGATE DONE TO MY SYSTEM!?  ???  :'(

Has anyone else had the same problem of fs9 not starting?? Anyone got any ideas?? Anyone know what sygate has done??

Well I have got sygate it and I have not had a problem!

Me either, I have used Sygate for some time now, as a matter of fact just updated it yesterday and no trouble yet, knock on wood!
Did you try a restore point before the one that Sygate set?
Just as a precaution I set my own restore points instead of trusting the software to do it for me.

Try finding your old FS9.cfg file.   Delete it.  Then try re-running the sim.  Your sim will construct a new FS9.cfg for you. Maybe somthing became corrupted?

Have you got the latest Directx, the same thing happened to me when I had an old directx installed. Also try running fs9, wait for about a minute on the splash screen and hit ctrl+alt+delete a bit (maye three times, with intervals) and that might work. Also happened to me before. Had to do the ctrl+alt+delete thing and 2 error messages would come up about add-on scenery that I had installed and not uninstalled properly.

Ok. i Uninstalled the game. Removed all the rubbush from the registry that wasnt need (i.e didnt go anywere)
reinstalled but there was still no luck

Im going to see what version of directx i have and update if need be although theres nothing on windows update so i think i have latest version. ill try the fs9.cfg after that.  :(

the one thing is i DONT want to have to reformat  :'(

i have the latest version of directx and i dont even have fs9.cfg on my machine :\  :(

FS9.cfg will be in your root FS2004 file.

found it,
deleted it,
no change

BUT!!!!!!!

I reinstalled dx and it worked.

turned out in the control panel it said dx v9 and in dxdiag it said 8.1. whats up with that?! lol. reinstalled dx and it worked fine  ;D Thanks Happy Grimmy for the tip.

No problem, same thing happened to me, lol.

Hi fellow simmer, i had this very thing  happen to me i had to try and install it again and again eventually it just worked. mine did it after i installed a set of gauges it obviously did'nt like one and out of the pram went the toys.  If you leave the splash screen long enough and are running XP home or XP pro a program not responding message comes up giving you an idea of what has gone wrong. sorry not to be more helpfull but hope it works soon i know what you are going through if you miss the flying as much as i do

I dunno what happened to my FS2004 but everytime i open it i have to put in the key commands. and when i play multiplayer i have to put in my name again. and also when i start out on an airport, i dont see the gates.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!
