Gunnerman,
The Global Mesh files install just like any other "Scenery". If you are not familiar with this proceedure than read Doug's tute here:
http://www.simviation.com/lair/fs2002sc.htmActivating and Deactivating is done in the "Scenery Library" within the game. If you still don't quite get it after reading the tute, let me know.
P.S. Just found this thread here at SimV. It even though it is for different mesh, the same method is used.

Is that a good mesh? I have heard a lot about it but never tried it-what do you guys who have used it think about it?

What I'm confused with is that I too downloaded some and that is all I have is a BGL file. In the tute it shows a parent folder with a scenery and texture folder inside.
Now Do I create the three folders mentioned and then place the BLG file in one of them? Then place the new parent folder in the Add-on scenery folder in FS9?
Or do I simply paste the BGL file into the scenery folder that already exsist in the add-on scenery folder?
Reason being is when the sim is running and I go to a airport that is located in the area of the new scenery and click search add-on scenery, nothing appears.
I know that this has to be a simple thing to so but how?

Ok PI....here's what I do.........browse to the Scenery folder in the FS9 directory (NOT the Addon Scenery folder) in there make a new folder and call it what you want..say Scotland if thats the area you just downloaded, just so you can recognize it.

....open that and in there make another folder called Scenery and place the bgl file in that.
Then start FS9 and in the Scenery Library you can click on the Add Area button and ....well you will know what to do next ???
By the way....I do think it's worth the trouble

Just one more thing....I put downloaded airports in the Addon Scenery folder then when you want to choose an airport you can do the "search add on scenery" thing to find it....hope this helps

Ok then I'm adding it to the wrong folder! It goes in the scenery folder not the ADD-ON Scenery folder correct?
So is the ADD-ON Scenery folder only used for airports?

Well PI, all I can truthfully say is that it works for me.........and clicking that "search addon scenery" thing seems to appear only when you want to change AIRPORTS.........you have to set the priorities and activate or deactivate SCENERY areas in the Scenery Library...yes?

The truth is, scenery, unlike other things, can be put anywhere you like. The reason being is that you direct the path to where it is located when you activate it in the scenery library. Unlike acft., which has ONE place that FS9 tells the game to look for the planes. I know of guys that have, and maybe still do, put there Addon Scenery right on their Desk Top and activate it from there. lol
You can put the mesh in Add Ons. That is where I put mine. I made a folder called "Global Mesh", oddly enough. ;-) Then in there I made two subfolders, scenery and textures. Now since there are no textures, you can leave the texture folder out. All the .bgls go in the scenery subfolder within the "Global Mesh" folder.
When I download a new "Global Mesh" area, I just add it to the "Global Mesh" scenery subfolder, delete the scenery.dat file since the "Global Mesh" is already activated in the Scenery Library. What this does is that when you add new .bgls to the Main Scenery Folder (Global Mesh) is allows FS9 to rebuild the scenery database. Many don't delete the .dat file, but to avoid any possible problems, which can occur when you don't rebuild the database doing it my way, I delete it and when I start up the game again it rebuilds a new .dat file with the newly added .bgls included.
Currently I am only adding Mesh to the US. When I start Europe I will make another Main Mesh Folder and title it something like EuroMesh.
All this saves me from having to Activate and maintain so many different listings in the Scenery Library.
But like I said, with scenery there are so many "correct" ways of adding it.

Are there any plans to extend the coverage of these mesh files?

So your saying I can just make a foldier in \FS9\ADD On Scenery\
"USAMesh"\Scenery\ and put ALL of my terrain meshes in there and not need to manage all of them?
Sounds like a much easyer way to do things but say I add all of the US and some of Mexico for example into this folder. Is this going to hurt Framerates and/or how long (if any increase) will it take to load or if I Cache it will the load time and FPS be virtualy unchanged? because ive heard adding alot of this mesh can add large amounts of time for your FS to load and I dont see why having more than few meshes would affect framerates because FS would not have most of them in your flight/View at the time. So does it just act as a little more complex scenery and not afect fps to much, or am I going to turn the ones I dont need off to kepp my frames at a decent number? I can prolly handle a lil extra load time

Well commoner's way worked fine, or I think, I wasn't to bright when doing it and added scenery to a place I have never flown before but I can tell it isn't default stuff, hills are more defined.
Now I'll try Fireman's way, because what I'm doing is adding European stuff I already have a payware US scenery that I really like.
So If I understand Fireman I can just make a folder in the Add-on scenery named Europe inside have a scenery and texture folder, put all bgl files in the scenery folder and FS9 will know what to do with it? I did notice the cache this scenery thingy in the settings I would assume that this can't be done if adding it Firemans way???

To add the scenery I had to actually type in the address to the .bgl file after clicking on Add Area.
