After happily running 2k4 for 12 months I just installed Flight Sim Manager. At first all was well then I removed a few a/c which I wasn't using - Now it refuses to load - not only that but it completely locks my pc.

I have tried uninstall reinstall but the problem still persists!

Any ideas anyone  ???

When something like what youre describing happends to me,in any plataform,the only thing i do its format my c: drive,and reinstall everything back,i dont believe in desfrag i know what it does,and specialy if you had saved mp3 music,many guys from here are going to critics me,but is my opinion you can do what everyone are going to tell you,maybe it will funcion couple days or a week at the end remember(format C:/q)its the solution,of course if you got the knowledge to do this,if you don't you'll need to assistance by a tecnician

I could format but it seems a bit drastic, could there be any easier solutions?

This seems to be a Windows problem, so did you install any programs after Flight Sim Manager?
There's lots of troublesome programs that make MASSIVE changes in the system folders and Windows registry.. If you did, I suggest you try to uninstall them first and see what happens..

You can also try to restore to an earlier date when your computer was working just fine.

Worth a try.  In my opinion, reformating your C: drive is always a last resort.  It makes me sick to my stomach to think about reformating my computer, and then reinstalling all my software, planes, scenery, etc.

Thats why i always saves every important things in Cd's
i never trust hard drives,a virus,or anything and in a second you can loose all your work
I got used to, i format at least 2 c:drives a week(not mine)its a part of my job,and as i said i format my own drive every 3 month,Skitles fat32 or fat16"win95"are a system of archive mecanism wich the recording its all over the plate of the hdd,ex:you had a fs9 it will take abou 4 gz of space,imagine that you already use erase/recorded many times,the first rule is nothing on your drive really get erased,just pass to a disponibility place,Is really hard skitles to explain into english so ill compact,because i cant be explainable very well,Desfrag put all archives in one place so the magnetig head will seach faster cause its find everything together in order,when you had used to a long time your drive without desfrag
and your are going to install fs9 .it put pieces of the program all over the plate of the c:,when you desfrag it will put fs9,and all the rest of the programs you have instaled with archive of mp3 music videos all in order and close each one of them,when you hit fs9 you heard that common name of the c:drive like machine gun,its because is loading the program into your memory from everyplace of c:drive this is due that the head its moving searching in zig zag movements (without desfrag)if you already did, you hear but lower,and the prgm will load a little faster
Why i don't believe in DESFRAG..In the process theres always a errors because what thew system doing its take the pieces of the program,load into memory,and put or re recorded in one place nearly from each other,and "erased"the original piece Its realy hard for me Im given you a very simple idea of how the system FAT works theres another things and reason more deeply that inplicates that desfrags are not good to me
about clusters sizes,buffer,But due to my limits in the english lenguage i unfortualy i cant

Many thanks for your reply's folks. I have now sorted the problem and am happily flying around again!

For info purposes I had not realised that fs9 puts stuff into the application data area of Win2k, so I had uninstalled the programme, deleted the My Docs references but not the stuff in Documents and Settings (which is different to my docs!) - hence the prog was trying to load data now not relevant - missing a/c scenery etc which was still around in the config. Once I deleted the fs9 folder from Application Data/Microsoft everything was fine.

I have never been able to do a system rollback on Win2k - is this possible?
