Hi,
I use a Ge-force4mx 440 Agp8x with 128 MB vram. My Pc is 1.51 Ghz, running xp pro with 768 MB RAM. I usually get about 12-20 fps which, as you probably know is not very smooth. I was just messing about with FS the other night and, without changing any settings (I keep all my sliders very close to or at full) I was able to get up to 38 fps.

(note of caution: If you try out what I describe below, I cannot be held responsible for any damage made to your computer, however, the changes are all simple and shouldn't do any harm. If you are unsure, I would check with others first)

Ge-force 4 users, this could be your answer.
All you need to do is go to your settings/display tab by pressing alt in flight or using the main menu. Then go to your video card page and change your fs9 resolution (I changed mine to 1280 x 1024 x 32, but you need to set it to something high, more than 1152x864 I think). Then exit your sim, on your desktop, right click with the mouse and go to properties (or go to start, settings, control panel and open 'display'). Go to the settings tab and click on advanced, go to your video card tab and open additional properties. Then all you have to do is manually set your anti-aliasing settings to 2x or quincunx. When I tried the sim, the graphics were still great because it was at a high resolution and the anti-aliasing smoothed off the edges. I'll be posting screenshots later in the freeware screenshot forum. Hope this works,

I think you people should stop complaining about your fps, I get 3 to 8 fps with all my settings on low even over the ocean in the middle of nowhere ,and you think 20 is not smooth?"

Man... you certainly have more patience that I have.  Sorry to hear that.  That pretty much makes it a "slide show".  I find anything less than 20 to be pretty unrealistic for trying to take off and land.

Yes Scoochy, its generally recommended that you set AA from your system display settings, as explained by Adam, rather than from the FS display settings.

So with a Geforce 4 MX you say increase the resolution and then enable anti-alaising?

Sorry, I will post screenshots but I'll make a comparison.

I used to fly at 1152x864 with 4x directx resolution. I had all the scenery sliders set to max, all the aircraft sliders set to max and cloud sliders about halfway. I would get frames ranging from 2 - 18.

I messed about, trying all the different things people had come up with to speed up your graphics, I just didn't seem to get much difference.

I just suddenly came up with the idea of setting my res to 1280x1024 and put anti-aliasing on quincunx. I found after this I could get frames near the 40s around cities. I then put my res to 1600x1200 and switched anti-aliasing to 2x and could still keep acceptable frames (10-30 imo) when flying. The only area this falls down is when I'm at a large, complex airport with lots of ai traffic.

I'll post shots, I just haven't had the time as I've been at school,

P.S. This may just have worked on my system, who knows why I'm now getting these frame rates.

I'm more than interested to see if this works on my pc at home! - It dosent work on my friends GF4 ti4600, his fps drops by about 10 @ 1280x1024 with Quincux enabled....  ::)

Here are some shots. I took off from ontario and climbed to about 6000 feet. The quality isn't great as they're just a demonstration.

They're taken in 1600x1200x32 ad then resized to 800x600.

Ok, same settings, can I see you fly low over central london at say 250ft please, my point being, I'd be amazed if you get good fps, and in my view, you need a consistent smooth framerate to get the best of FS. (Mines locked @ 20fps, 1280x1024 2xAA 2xAF and medium sliders, I rarely see over 19fps but it hardly drops despite my building buzzing capers..... if I disable the AA & AF the fps nearly doubles.

Could you give me another city to fly around, I've got the photographic sceneries for england installed

Could you please fly from Seattle, then when close enough to Seattle city move the nose down a bit and take a screenshot from within the cabin with no cockpit.  This is with the picture filled with buildings/land, by this i mean no sky.  This is with settings maxed.

Increasing the resolution makes the graphics card work harder, and so does the AA. I dont understand how you are getting higher FPS than before.

I tried it, got lower FPS.

My motherboard has an inbuilt MX440 and before I bought my Ti 4200 I had to cope with awful graphics.
