Scenery & cities missing

Postby Lysander77 » Wed Sep 08, 2004 7:00 pm

For some reason, in FS2004 the East Coast and its cities do not appear in the program - though the West Coast does.  Can anyone suggest why the East Coast should be missing?
Thank you.

That's becuz the East doesn't know that the West exists. They are 3 hours ahead and think becuz the west is asleep until 9.00am, they're asleep all day. Well Microsoft got mad and in the sim world, gave them a taste of their own medicine...see!  ;D

I'm not quite sure what your problem is  -  can you supply the names of the cities you are missing ?    This would at least enable a check to see if you are the only one with this problem or whether it was a "microsoft design" problem.

You think you've got it bad, try flying in parts of Europe, Africa and Asia, whole cities missing! Hundreds of airfields MIA etc. Famous historical monuments vanished :P
So make a list of what you need and check-out our scenery download page, you'll probably find what you're looking for ;)

lysander,

It sounds like somehow the bgl file(s) that cover the whole east coast in your installation have become corupted or deleted.

It is likely that you can restore them from the original disk cabs....... but you have to figure out which ones.

I fly Boston to New York a lot and all seems right in that area of the east coast.  Everything is spot on in New Hampshire.  I flew to Boston to Florida a couple times and nothing jumped out as amis...

ChrisF,

If you haven't done so already, add the FSGenesis terrain mesh for NE...... it makes an AMAZING difference.

best,

Yeah, I did.  Well worth the DL.  My hobby is cycling and it was great to see all the local hills well modled (I live in Londonderry, NH and ride around Goffstown and Bow, New Hampshire).  I've dropped a lot of sweat on those hills and every inch looked like it was represented.

Unfortunately now the streets don't line up with the hills.  Up in Franconia Notch (NH White Mountains) the main highway (93) climbs up the mountains rather then going through the pass.  Looks like I might need to buy that US Streets payware thing.  But then I'll need the whole US Terrain map.  And ofcourse Ultimate Traffic...  (Oh boy, this could get expensive.)

ChrisF,

The roads and rivers in fs2004 were all botched up even with the default scenery.  I sort of don;t understand how they can screw them up the way they do.  The often GET the river or road ...... but it seems always to be slightly off the real world coordinates.  If they bother to input data points for that stuff....... how hard is it to use accurate ones  ???.

Anyway........ yes.... flying the Whites "low and slow" is nice now.  Mt. Washington looks like Mt. Washington.   ;)

best,

Many, many thanks for the wonderful variety and helpfulness of the replies to my query.  Yes, I think that indeed the .bgl files must be corrupted or missing -- I've unstalled a number of Visual Flight scenery files for the UK, plus some French files for Belle Isle en Mer, etc. along the Bretagne coast, and quite possibly these have interfered with -- if not actually removed -- the default .bgl files.
So now I'll follow these leads and see what can be accomplished.
Above all, I appreciate the prompt and considerate responses to my plea for help.
                                 All the best,
                                      Lysander77 :D
