hoobastank,

Hi and welcome to SimV.

Go to "Create a Flight.  Select the flight planner.  Pick a start airport and a destination airport.  Click the "generate flight plan" button.  Save it.

No when you go to the GPS or the map view, you will see the route that is created.  You can modify this route on the map screen by clicking and dragging the course line onto VOR's and NDB and Intersections and such.

Hit the "learning Center" in fs2004 for all this type stuff.  It is a complex program and it has a steep learing curve.

best,

Another choice if you have some $$ burning a hole in your pocket is download FSNavigator. It's a flight planning and managment utility that's a whole lot better thant he default system.

When I first started, when things were a bit simpler, I used to get out my atlas, work out my rough bearings, take off and see if I could find my destination airport.

Sometimes I got lucky.

Now I sit on the deck, load up the GPS - doesn't seem quite as challenging though......?

I would suggest you do the privat pilot training. I did it and it help. it will make you a better pilot, it did with me.

also there are a lot of small video to learn in fs9. watch them all. they are fun and straight to the point.

you will enjoy this personal simulator a lot more when you get to know it. there is so many thing. it can be chalenging at time. but it wort it.

I am learning like you and still a lot to learn. that is what i like from this.

have fun. and learn IFR and VFR use all you can from your GPS it is a powerfull tools. I am learning stuff on it every day. give your self specific goals and see what you need to know to get to it.  one step at the time.
