Add-ons and frame rates...

Recently, I have noticed my frame rate take a hit.  It varies from plane to plane and where I happen to be (Chicago O'Hare practically made my computer choke).  I have heard that reducing the # of planes you don't fly can help with the frame rates.  I also use the Global Terrain Mesh (70M) cached as well as the addon scenery cached (could un-cacheing them help)

I also use FSAutostart to shut down background processes and I have the NoCD.exe for FS9 (I do have the CDs and purchased the product from a Best Buy here).

Any suggestions?

Uncaching might help, but the problem with some add-ons is that they are incredibly detailed, but also incredibly system resource intensive.
A good example of this is the Duxford add-on scenery, its superb in every detail, the display planes, hangars etc, but because of this detail even with a top-end machine it still slows down.
You could try lowering your AI a little, this helps a bit a big airports like O'Hare.

Yup.  I got what I consider a highish spec PC and Duxford still kills it lmao.  Things added with FSE 2004 and the LAGO Geos arent bad, but I still notice a difference in FPS with high detailed aircraft etc.

I got some Gatwick scenery and if I go there in say the PMDG 737 im down to 15fps with 100%AI and everythin looking pretty (1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF etc)

Everything is a compromise with FS, some places you have to sacrifice a little detail to appreciate other bits.

hi jordan...yea, its frustrating aint it!....i can go on and on about fs9 performance...however, the best comments ever are by j barrymore..he's always honest and to the point...read it..its a thread on this forum i believe..anyhow, it says it all...as for ord approach...you need to bring your traffic slider way down and at least you will get a "somewhat smooth" approach....i wish there was a way to simply keystroke traffic to off for the approach and then "keystroke" it back on during taxi in..i'll bet someone on this forum can come up with something like that..these guys really have their acts together.....read barrymores comments

I've been fooling around with it, and I found a happy medium for  O'hare (of course, I have to find another if I happen to be flying something like the LET or a Boeing Jet).  Where is that thread by Jbarrymore?  Might you know the title?
