It might take longer to load when you first run the sim. Apart from that I don't think the number of installed aircraft would make any difference.

I used to have a lot of aircraft in my folder, and like Hagar stated it makes the inital load time a little longer, but no big deal.
Recently I have been keeping a majority of my add-ons on a disc and loading them when I feel like flying them. And mainly keep the most used installed. Just to make it a little less cluttered. After all what is the point of having a hundred aircraft or more  installed all at once? They are easy enough to remove and put back in.

The easiest way to manage your addon aircraft is to create a Hangar subfolder in the FS9\Aircraft folder. Drag any aircraft you don't wish to use into this folder. You could have several suitably named "hangars" for different types. Be careful not to remove default aircraft or any 3rd party aircraft used as AI traffic.

PS.

This is a good idea but burning files to a CD makes them Read-only. This can cause problems if you reinstall aircraft from a CD & wish to modify them. The best method would be to zip them up first.

I found that out early on the first time I decided to do that!
What I usally do is make two discs, one has the original downloaded zipped file and the other the aircraft folder, that way if I decide too "modify" a aircraft I'll used the zipped one, if I just want to jump in and fly, I go for the folder.
Glad you mentioned that!!! I would hate too have someone do what I do and then find that they need to start over!

Hi Hagar how are you doing?i didn't know that,Can i create a subfolder inside of fs9/aircrarf,and the system will recognize?,that would be great i could place my add-on favorites in one and the badly ones in another one,and about the CD.ive got already got my library of saved planes of fs9 in CDswith pictures outside with the same name so when i open the folder i see the zip and picture together,i being doing this since fs 2000 ;)
    cheers.

p.s.im glad to hear that i can install all of them without problems exept when its loading,if theres something about the sub folder let me know...

Hi Alrot. Dragging the aircraft into a "Hangar" subfolder hides them & removes them from the FS9 menu. This is a convenient way to avoid cluttering it up with aircraft you rarely use. You would have to move/drag them back into the main FS9\Aircraft directory for them to be recognised. I don't think there's any way to change that.

PS. I haven't forgotten the scenery design problem. I'm not back to normal yet. ::)

I have over 750 aircraft/repaints now, and my load time is a bit lengthy, but other than that, no issues.

Be sure that when you remove the aircraft that you are aware of which ones share sounds and panels.  Plus, be sure to keep the gauges folder intact or atleast know where you put them.

I too have a FS9 Hangar folder.  It is on my secondary hard drive.  It does make things load smoother and quicker if I keep the aircraft file to a minimum.  However, I don't notice a FPS increase or decrease, either way.
