I don't kow what happened but I just realized my to/from flap on my cesna 172 vor no longer works
heres what I mean

Image
this is during the VOR lesson (but it happens everywhere) the VOR station is straight ahead but the flap shows Im over the station instead of "^"

Its permanently stuck on over the VOR no more "^" or "v".

I recopied the guages from the fs9 disk onto my HD again and still no joy

any suggestion

thanks

Forgive me for being an idiot but I think I just found the problem I was looking at the wrong flap, the one I should have been looking at is this one

Image

but now I change my question to what does the big flap mean? (its always on over VOR station)

That's your glideslope indicator for the ILS. :)

What does the flaps have to do with the VORs? Are they not just flaps on the wing to slow ya down? ;D

Im not shure if you're joking or not but if not I meant the "To/From Flag" (AKA the Ambiguaty Indicator) under the letters GS (oohh glide slope)

so the flap under the GS tell you if youve passed the ILS?

No, the to/from flag is the little triangle on the bottom part of the guage. If it's pointing up, you're heading towards the VOR, down, you're heading away from it.

Hope that clears things up and such.

Like J says...!
When the pointer is facing upwards you are travelling towards the VOR station.
If it's facing down, you've left it behind... ;D...!

Just rotate the OBS knob on the VOR indicator until the upright line is vertical, (or three broken lines all match up), and then read the compass direction on the VOR indicator.
(The horizontal line is for instrument approaches only, and indicates whether you are above or below the glide slope).
Turn your aircraft to match the same heading on your main compass.
You are then lined up for the next VOR station... 8)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

Paul.

On the '172, etc, I generally make manual landings, and only use the VOR instrument for tracking between VOR stations... ;)...!

A similar thing applies to the ADF indicator. When the radio is tuned to the NDB frequency, the yellow arrow will point to it's direction. When it's vertical you are heading straight for it... ;D...!
...no reason to get lost....LOL...LOL...LOL...!

have a peek here...>>>

Im sorry I think I just confused everyone what I meant was Flag not flaps but unfortunately I have dial up and I had to wait for the plumber to call till I could go online  and fix it::)

I meant the little arrow on the VOR that points up down or showes a checkered flag

now it makes a lot of sense

The arrow next to the letters GS (standing for Glide slope) tell you if you are headed away or toward the ILS

the arrow next to the letters NAV(where the yellow arrow is pointed in second picture) tell you wheter you are headed toward the

A few minor things to bring up about VOR's...

The To/From flag will not tell you if you are heading To/From the VOR or not.  The airplane's heading has no distinction (unlike the ADF/NDB) whatsoever regarding the VOR indications.

Let me explain:

If you set the 360 radial on the VOR and you are north of the VOR station, the flag will show From.  You could be heading north away from the station or south towards the station and the flag will always show From unless you cross south of the VOR, then it will show To.

If you are at the same location and set the 180 radial on the VOR and you are north of the station, the flag will show To.   You could be heading north away from the station or south towards the station and the flag will show To unless you cross south of the station and it will switch to From.
