My framerates seem to have gone down mysteriously

heres my fraps log from
2004-04-24 16:48:35 - fs9
Frames: 2248 - Time: 114034ms - Avg: 19.713 - Min: 14 - Max: 25

now heres my fraps log from
2004-07-07 17:00:33 - fs9
Frames: 1889 - Time: 183054ms - Avg: 10.319 - Min: 5 - Max: 22

then I defragged my HD (5 long hours)
and my framerate was
2004-07-08 22:06:03 - fs9
Frames: 1278 - Time: 74998ms - Avg: 17.040 - Min: 12 - Max: 31

Then today I played again and they were down again

2004-07-10 12:28:26 - fs9
Frames: 711 - Time: 83450ms - Avg: 8.520 - Min: 2 - Max: 14

any one have this problem or know how to fix it

thanks

I believe this is the windows getting slower syndrome.  It was worse with Win98.  Winxp seems to last longer but is not immune.  I am not sure what causes it but it happens.  Format and re-install is the only known remedy.

I have my Flight sim installed on a different HD then my Windows XP

and ouch reformating would make me lose a lot of my data!

but somehow, CFS3 still runs really good if not better then ever

Have you checked your system for spyware.this can cause slowdowns.i havent ever had this problem on win xp though.allso some back ground programs running thats not needed can take away from performance.heres a nice freeware program that i run that helps my sim alot.just go to downloads section for more information.by the way from the looks of your system if your motherboard will handle more ram.that would help alot.i am running a gig of the DDR typ with good results.i just wasnt happy running 512mb.i kept getting out of memory errors.

I do have the FSautostart works great and checked for spyware just cydoor cant get rid of that one cuz KazaA I'll need a new mobo for new ram but im thinking of getting one but right now I'm broke and not old enough to work so I'll be patient.

so any way to speed up my game till then? Does the HD just get gradually slower? it worked fine before

1.87GHz (Quantisped) PowerNow! Technology
MEMORY: 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB) at 266MHz
64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 4x AGP with 3D Architecture<--(64MB DDR (shared))
40GB Hard Drive
1024x768 XGA TFT Display(15.0")
