From California to Hawaii

I planning a jaunt from Mackinac1 to Hawaii (not all at once of course). My question is this,  What plane would I need to make the trip from California to Hawaii?

I'm hoping to do it in a Lancair Legacy, but I don't know the range...

Any recommendations (props please)

I once flew a B-17 from San Francisco to Pearl Harbour. Took 14 hours, and I landed with only a few gallons of fuel left 8)

The Lancair Legacy has a max range, with fuel reserves, of 1042 nm (read from the tech sheet of the add-on plane in FS9), this means that you'll have to land somewhere halfway in the last leg.

Sigh :'(

I'm not to jets yet.  I guess I'll have to wait a bit (I'm still on small prop planes)

I was afraid of this...but thank you for your responses.

I tried a trick once. I edited the aircraft.cfg file for the KingAir.. giving it a center tank holding enough fuel to fly from NYC to London. I did it in FS2002 so I also had to remove the passenger weight-stations in the cfg file (you can do it from the select-plane screen in FS2004). I don't remember the numbers, but with the passengers removed.. enough fuel to fly trans-Atlantic was no prob..except climbing, right at max gross weight was a little slow  ;)

If you really want to make the trip you can turn unlimited fuel on.or i think if you hit Ctrl+x it will refill the tanks when they get low of fuel.a little cheating but no one will no about it but you.just dont try this in the real world of flight. ;)

If you want to make an adverture of it you could fly California to Alaska to Russia to Japan to Iwo Jima to Guam to Pohnpei Intl to Marshall Islands Intl to Port Johnston Atoll to Hawaii.

The longest leg in there is Marshall Islands to Port Johnston at 1265 nm but I believe there are some islands in between where you could stop.  The last leg to Hawaii will be 846 nm if you fly to Hilo Intl.

So if you've got some time go for it.

Having said that, I just rememberd that the company I work for, Merric, has a Cessna 402C they use for LIDAR (I forget what that stands) and they recenly flew from California to Hawaii by taking all the seats out and adding a fuel bladder. So as mentioned in another post, if you know how, add more fuel.

And BTW, Man I wish we could have this kind of terain detail in M$FS http://www.merrick.com/servicelines/gis/lidarsamples.aspx
