Does anyone know if there is a way of using the autopilot for landing?

Welcome to SimV.
Unfortunately, the autoland feature in FS doesn't actually land the plane. It will line you up and take you along the ILS glide slope but it won't actually land it. The flare , touchdown, reverse engines, you have to do that.

Looks like I will still have to keep practicing, just need to get the final app speed right, allways either stall just before runway, or over shoot target area and when in a large plane can overshoot the end of a runway, but as they say, practice makes perfect!!!

I've found the Learjet will land itself on an ILS approach , but you still have to work the throttle and the brakes! I've got 200 hours up in FS2004 and for me its been practice, practice and more practice. I've finally got the hang of landing the 747 after doing many touch and go practice landings. If you're really having problems landing the heavies, try reducing the simulation rate to half normal speed. This will give you more time to make corrections.

And if you want a real challenge, set it to twice normal rate!!!

Never could understand the idea behind autoland. The idea of the sim is to learn to fly. If you're going to let the game do it for you, then why even play? :)

I know how to land, but still use the autolanding every once in a while, especially in bad weather.
Just trying to do what real pilots would do

Hey Nexus,
Just thought I'd share, but I just completed my first autoland in the PMDG 737.

If you really want to test your skills, try landing the 747 at Princess Juliana airport.

It's not hard to land a 747 at Princess Juliana...you have a 10nm straight final for crying out loud ;D
Yes there are water adjacent to the airport, but a visual into SFO or JFK is just as "hard", only difference here is that you only have a 7.000ft runway available for stopping. But even at maximum landing weight, a standard 744 can stop in that distance if the runway is dry.
It would be VERY close though and I don't think it's allowed to land at MLW...?
Just my 2 centimos.
