i was just curious:  if you take off right behind a plane (AI air traffic) will it fly to another airport and land?  or does it just fly in a straight line?  I ask because i followed a 737 from seattle all the way east past detroit (but then i lost it when i turned up the simulation rate) and i wondered if it would have actually gone and landed in say, boston or new york.

Hmmm.  Most AI traffic has a destination airport.

I would say yes, it was going somewhere here on the East coast, but a 737 cross country doesn't seem quite right... ;)

I am not sure if the default fs ai traffic does actually have a destination, though it is likely, but Ultimate traffic 2004 definatly does. Ive flown formation with them many a time 8)

Yes, if you follow it. I have flown formations with aircraft from point A to point B

All AI traffic has to have at least a starting point & destination to work. If there are no free parking spots at the destination airport they cannot land & will simply disappear. With the amount of traffic in the default files alone there must be a few bugs.

it should yeah, but it will refuse to take off if you are in the middle of the runway when they are about to take off even if you are there without ATC clearance. They will also do a go around if you are in the runway while ur landing....
