FS 9 always crashes

Postby ludo62 » Wed Jun 16, 2004 9:00 am

I have a fairly big computer , but when i download a plane to add to my FS 9 it crashes , why is this happening ? Is there a limit of planes you can add to FS 9? No matter what i do or try  it always happens again .
Are the planes that are availeble for download compatible with FS 9 ? Please help i would really like to fly some planes .

I had this problem once, and come to find out it was a bad gauge, so that is most likely the problem. I had to trace down the bad gauge and delete it from the gauges folder before the plane would work without crashing fs9

The best way to treat dowloads is to make a seperate folder than put your downloads into it. When you unzip each file do not unzip directly into fs9 unzip anywhere other than FS9 if you have a gauge folder than copy the contents of that folder into your FS9 gauge folder. Put any effects in the effects folder, any modules would go into the module folder, the rest goes into the aircraft folder. If you have a bad gauge or missing .air file it can cause fs9 to crash. With out some other program it is going to be hard if not impossable to which gauge is bad. There are a couple of programs out there that allows you to edit panells. One is cfgedit it is freeware but it will not allow you to edit or display xml gauges & it might not be able to read all of the gauges in fs9.
The other is called Panell design studio and is payware from flightone. It will read all of fs9 gauges including the XML gauges & will also allow you to edit XML gauges.
This program is like an extension of cfgedit. 8)

Hi - rather than be dismayed by the notion of searching for an illusive corrupt gauge (a pretty rare thing in reality - I've installed 10's 1000's of aircraft over the years & this has never happened to me) .. it is quite likely this is happening due to in incorrect installation of add-ons.

I see you are asking how to install aircraft in another post made today so, coupled with your above post,

There was a problem in '02 in which some gauges required fssound.dll in the modules folder and fs2002.cfg had to be edited to add:

(Oldmodules)   <---Use brackets instead of parens
fssound.dll=1

I don't know whether this problem carries over into '04.
