i know this has been asked alot but it is still unclear for me.  when i am flying around and i hit my views from whatever side of the plane i get a quick view of an area of the scenery taken out in a chunk and then it appears.  i am assuming that this is because of my settings and my computer... 933 mhz 256 ram nividia geoforce 2 mx.  im not near my home computer where i can access the game to see what the settings are right now but i was messing with it and i am still trying to get rid of all the flickering (kinda like a choppy movement at times).  any help to make this run more smoothly with godd scenery would be appreciated.  i'm trying not to upgrade my computer at this time.  thanks in advance.

p.s. my mommy says i'm special... lol

You really need 512mb RAM and probably a slightly better video card is the horribly honest truth

for a gfx card your best buys would be a Geforce FX or the Radeon equivilent. lol.

A better video card is always a good investment.  Right now it's going to be impossible to have a good frame rate and life-like scenery at the same time.  If you really don't want a new video card then just try to make a compromise between speed and graphics.  When you pan the view it does take a second to load the scenery on a slower computer.   Is the flickering affect created by a poor frame rate???

That is one of the main reasons try pressing shift z a couple of time till it shows your frame rates. The higher the number the better FS looks.
When you first installed fs it tries to set the sliders and resolution to what it feels will work with your system.But that is only a guess and you have to fine tune it. What I would suggest is to use the default grand caravan then go to some small air port with clear skies then check out your frame rates this number will most likely be the best that you can expect under your current settings. Then change aircraft to the default B747-400 go to KATL max out the weather, then recheck out your frame rates again this will be the worst or the slowest you would get with your current settings. If this number is really low then you need to make some changes.
I recently bought a FX5200 128 meg DDR AGP and only paid $99.00 for it.
If your system does not have a AGP slot you can use a PCI slot but it is not the same thing. You might want to consider upgrading to a system that has a AGP slot.
There are a lot of systems that come with the FX5200 card.
It depends on how much money you can afford to spend 3d cards can run 2 and 300 dollars
But the end result is amazing  
 

i just updated my computer to 512 ram and i am looking at the video cards now.  i do have an AGP slot so i'm good there with my dinosaur computer... lol.  my processor is a p3 933 mhz and the video card is now a nvidia geforce 2 mx 32 mb.  i do get some scenery blotches so to speak to load.  is this becasue of my video card or the ram that i used to have?  it was 256 when this happened but i haven't had a chance to test it out yet with the new memory.  i had the settings set at 1024 x 768 16 bit.  i guess i just need to tinker with it until i get my new needed video card...  ;D

after some research i found that my power source for my computer might not be able to handle a high performance card in the 128 mb range.

To be perfecly honest that computer is really underpowered all around for ACOF. You can upgrade the vid card and RAM to get better performance but for best effect I would suggest saving for a new computer. Get something that will work for you for some time to come and will let you see all the goodies in FS2004. Just get along with the machine you have for now and tuck a couple $ away each paycheck for a new system.
