Freq. Problems with MFS Performance

Postby Pc-Shark » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:29 pm

ceI have seen a lot of questions regarding Microsoft Flight Simulator Performance.

When you expearence The Flight Simulator running slow these are the things that you need to do:

1} Open your "Task Manager" By pressing "Ctrl+Alt+Delete"

2} Click on the "Processes" Tab

3} Next you need to end all the processes Except for The processes called "Explorer" & "Taskmgr"  Also DO NOT end any processes that are listed as being used by the "System". If you do end a "System" Processes then that will cause system instability.

4} That will clear up a lot of wasted ram space that is being used by programs that are running that you are not useing.

5}Load "FS9"

6} go to the "Settings menu"

7} Click on "Display"

8} Turn all of your scenery settings to low

That should make the game run smothly but it also depends on your amount of Disk space and on your amount of Virtual Memory {Ram Space} Mine runs real good b/c I meet and go over the requairments of the game with

1} 80 GB Hard Drive
2} 2.4GHz
3} 256 MB Virtual Memory {RAM}
4} Intel Pentium 4 Processor

So if one or more of your System specifications are lower than mine then you might want to consider upgrading your CPU.

Thanks for the info CyberSurf. I gave it a try and saw a great difference without having to alter my settings too much. I will definitely be trying this when my Radeon 9800 gets here.
This is also leading me to try and download the program suggested by Captain Farhan. Thanks to both of you for informing the technically daft among us.

I would like to clear up some terminology...

Your 256 MB  is RAM not Virtual memory

Virtual Memory, is hard drive space used to augment your physical memory assuming your running Windows.  Windows creates a "swap file" which is actually your virtual memory.  The size of the swap file can be adjusted. I don't reccommend making bigger than 1 GB as it takes up read/write time.

I have 1GB RAM and 1GB virtual memory

Just felt like avoiding confusion...

So let me get this straight.  You deactivate your security features and THEN announce your IP address to total strangers?

You're just asking for an eBeating, aren't you?

Word of advice, simming brethren.  Don't do this.  Instead, either install a program like EndItAll or better yet, go to www.blackviper.com and follow his excellent instructions on how to set a gaming profile on your computer.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.
