more-detailed terrain mesh looks promising, but I cannot find the Scenery Library option in FS2004 to complete the installation as per the instructions.

Contrary to the Help file, there is no such option under Settings on my installation of FS2004 ( as admin under XP Pro) and I can't find it anywhere else either.

Any help welcome.

Thanks.

On the left side of the main menu, click on the 'settings' at the bottom. When it opens, there's a 'Scenery Library' button, click on it ;)

Hi xtp,

If you havent done so, I suggest you read Grumpy's tut. on adding scenery.

Thanks for the replies.

Trouble is, the bgl file didn't show when its folder was chosen so I couldn't install, much less activate by restarting FS9.

However, encouraged by JBaymore's success with Japan, I'll try again in the morning in case it was something to do with folder names.

I got the four files that cover the UK first and made a new folder called England.  In the England folder I made a folder called scenery and a folder called textures.  I put the four BGL's in the scenery folder and left the texture folder alone.  I'm quite impressed by the result.

Thanks to all.

Sorted now - I was pointing at the scenery folder instead of its parent.

Mountains of Wales and Scotland look much better now.

Interesting visual anomaly near Colerne airfield - looks like a vertical double laser beam.

Glad you got it basically working.

Not sure but maybe you can fix it with an "exclude" of some sort and a "texture patch" uising Airport or something.

Even in the default M$ scenery the main runway at Aomori, Japan has a couple of streetlights sitting right in the middle.  :o  Flying a Cessna you can go to the left of one and to the right of the other...... but anything with a much bigger wingspan will crash.

best,

After installing the new mesh I get a warning message on starting FS9 saying 'scenery.cfg file error .... addon scenery in area.038 not found.  Maybe that is the cause.  I'll try a reinstall when I get time.

Meanwhile, the artifical visual beacon is quite useful navaid!

May be I'm wrong, but when you create new folder
for addon scenery, this folder should contain at least two folders inside-"scenery" where you put your new mesh and "texture" wich can be empty...
It happenned much to me when addon scenery manager daznt recognize new mesh just because of absence of texture folder, adding emty texture folder fix the problem.

All now resolved, thanks.

The error message and the Colerne problem were resolved by hand editing the scenery.cfg file and removing the entries I had generated during earlier attempts to install.  A clean install worked fine.

In case the install route is not clear, this is the way that worked for me:

Under add-on Scenery, create a new main folder (eg Europe) and inside that create two folders:  scenery and texture.  Put the new 70m mesh BGL files inside the Scenery sub-folder.

Start FS9 and choose Settings on the opening screen, then Scenery Library - Add Area.  Point at the new main folder (eg Europe), choose caching required, and then OK to accept.  Repeat for any other areas you wish to install at the same time.  Then OK again to close the Scenery Library.

You may then need to restart FS9 to get the new scenery recognised.

Gibraltar is perhaps the most impressive improvement I have found so far in Europe, although the UK mountain areas are greatly improved as well.

To avoid this problem, 'delete' the unwanted scenery area from within the Scenery Library setup window before removing the folder from your hard drive.

Note: Once you have created your folder(s) for the mesh, and successfully 'added' it/them to the Scenery Library, you can add new .bgl's (as you d'load more) to '.... \(your mesh folder)\scenery\..' folder and FS will automatically update the next time it starts.
