How Change FS2004 GPS to FS2002 GPS?

Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out to do this but I cannot get it!

I am using FSTipsters Baron Panel and when I set it up in FS2002 I get the old GPS window. But in FS2004 I get the new one.
How do I get it so that I can get the FS2002 GPS in FS2004?

Thanks

Hi there Cherokee!

I do understand you r question but I think it won't work at all  :(, sorry pal, but as far as I know there is a incompability here, fs2002 gps is not compatible and vice-versa, but just in case here what U have to do

1. locate in the panel.cfg the gps gauge and window in both simulators

[Window01]
size_mm=250,350
position=8
BACKGROUND_COLOR=16,16,16
VISIBLE=0
ident=GPS_PANEL    <-- just a example ok? (refering here to fs2004)

gauge00=gps!gps,0,0,250,350 <-- change this to fs2002 gps gauge

2. just cut and paste the gps!gauge from fs2002 into fs2004 and save

3.  maybe it ll work, I'm really not sure

hope Iv've helped, just post afterwards tellin if worked or not, ok?

cya!

No don't change anything. The GPSs from the 2 versions are incompatible.

The fs9 one works ONLY in 2004 and vice versa.

You might want to consider the following if like me you don't like the fs9 versions.

Make the change in the code but change it instead to

fs9gps!gps_500

This at least gives you a better looking square version instead of that awful 'portable' version that you usually get in fs9

But in any event both fs9 versions are a total waste of space - literally - as in order to see anything on the ridiculously small screens surrounded by acres of 'plastic' they have to take up half the panel and obscure most of your instruments.

M$ - in my view you were barmy to make the change.

I've suspected that, I warn him not to change and I dun no if my post is even corrected but as I've said, they are incompatible and would cause problems, now Roller confirmed!
better not change at all!

Roller Ball,  I agree with you on the gps taken up wayto screen space. I have found a way around this problem and that is I move the gps and the radio stack to a second monitor. It sure makes things better that way.

Roller Ball; I've wondered about that pic, it must be over one of the holes in FS9. I tryed going down in one of them and gave up at 5000 bsl. :)

Happy Simming.

Don't think you will be able to modify the GPS in 2004. Reason is that the stock GPS is in Gauges\ Beech_Baron.cab.

;)

I have changed to the gps500 in all of the panels that I regularly use as I can't stand the stoopid portable hand-held version that M$ made the default.

If you use CFGEdit you can't see the gauge at all in the gauges folder and you certainly don't need to refer to any specific aircraft panel folder to make the change.

That is why you have to do it by editing the panel.cfg using Wordpad or Notepad in the way I said.

PS Not sure what you got out of your Garmin install....... :)

:)

Nothing mysterious - just uses a different gauge that's all.

Here's the top of one of my (old) 747 panels.

[Window Titles]
Window00=Overhead
Window01=VSI
Window02=ND Arc
Window03=ND Rose
Window04=Main
Window05=GPS
Window06=Radio Stack

And here's what window05 looks like

[Window05]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=640
window_size_ratio=1.00

Good point on the 500.

You can modify each aircraft cfg to accept the 500.
guage00=fs9gps! gps_500 rather than 295.
However you cannot modify the GPS in fs9gps.cab.
You can see the coding by clicking on gps_295 or 500 and sending it to Documents.  Open in Documents with a mouse click.

The 530 is installed similarly.
The problem with the 530 install is that the GPS button does not appear on the panel even though called for in the cab.

It works for me. I've started changeing out all those darn portable ones and puting in the 500. Now if I could just find the time to learn how to use it. :)

Thanks RollerBal
