Question about gauge cleaners!?

Hi there,
I recently downloaded a gauge cleaner from avsim called Gauge Doctor. It did not work properly. It did not remove the selected gauges. It seems to remove most all of the gauges including many that where being used. Luckily I had chosen the "move" option rather than the "delete" option so I was able to repair the damage. Any suggestions on which is the best program and how to properly use it would be appreciated!
Thanks
Eric

Instead of placing gauges into the FS2004/Gauges directory, I put gauges into the aircraft panel folder, that way I can delete the gauges along with the aircraft if I choose to ditch it

Andrew- do you then have to alter the panel.cfg to reference the gauges in a different place? or can you just create aguages folder? I know little to nothing about how panels work, but I'd like to be able to use the option you do. ???

You simply have to place the gauges in the panel folder.
No further mods are nessary.

This does work in FS9. However, many 3rd party panels use the same gauges. By using this method it's quite likely you will end up with far more gauges than keeping those you no longer need. I usually paste the gauges into the Panel folder to check the aircraft out. If I like it & intend keeping it I then transfer them to FS9\Gauges.
I've tried various gauge cleaner utilities over the years. Apart from one specifically intended for FS98 they all had bugs. With the different types of gauges used nowadays I wouldn't recommend any of them. Surplus gauges do no harm & don't affect the sim in any way. Providing you're not short of HD space it's better to leave them where they are. IMHO

Thank you for the responses.
I think I will take Hagar's advice and just leave them where they are!!! It all seems to risky and I no longer trust gauge cleaners.
Thanks
Eric

Hello eric
I do not use gauge cleaners either they have a bad habbit of removing the CAB files because they dont have the .GAU extinsion.
Like Hagar said it wont hurt to leave them what I do is before I add an air plane is to keep the gauge folder that comes with them so if I remove them I know which files to remove. This way my gauge folder does not get huge.

Garymbuska, just wondering....if the new panel you installed comes with gauges you already had in your gauges folder because an older panel needs it, and you delete all the gauges that came with your new panel.... then the older panel using the same gauges is incomplete! (if you get what I mean).
Hagar's suggestion is a lot easier and saver IMHO.

Why do you need to delete the guages? Can't you just leave them there? I know they're not being used for any aircraft, but still.
