Ok, i wanted to write "is it really necessary for atc to cancel your flightplan", but it didnt fit. anyway, why did microsoft implement this? what is the point? dont tell me in real life that if pilots dont answer ATC calls that their IFR plans get cancelled, because they dont.  ATC freaks out if you dont answer, thats what happens in real life. does anyone know why microsoft decided to do it this way?

MS implemented it this way because this is what is supposed to happen.

In RL different towers or centres will handle it differently depending on how they feel, your history and their workload.

They couldn't program what would happen in real life which is that they would warn other local aircraft of your presence and possibly even redirect them away from the area if you were judged to be a hazard, then pass your details on to the relevant authorities so you could be prosecuted for infringeing controlled airspace without authority and have your license revoked.

i was referring mostly to being able to leave my comp during trans-continental and trans-pacific flights. it is really annoying when i go down to eat and i come back up and my flight plan has been cancelled. im one of the people that likes to fly everything precisely, and for my life i wouldnt not have atc tell me when to descend, turn and the like. anyway, thanks for the responses.

It's called being vectored for an approach. Either comply, cancell, or you WILL be cancelled

I recommend you fly VFR, and plan your route using the map, so you can get a heading and altitude.
