Hello Everyone! I have been on these forums for over a year and this is my first post in the Fs2004 forum!

I am going to be buying 2004 and I want to know if I should uninstall fs2002 or does it just update or what?

And I am sure this was asked before but I could not find the answer....(so I appologize in advance!)

Thanks!

It's a seperate install mate, I believe it is possible to have them side by side but I personally uninstalled fs2k2 when I saw what '04 looked like.

I did forget to save all of my aircraft though.  No points for good sense... ::)

If you have the disk space, keep both installs.

Back up your original 04 files just in case and copy over your aircraft, gauges, effects, sound, scenery, texture and addon scenery folders (and activate the sceneries in FS04). Also copy over your saved flights and flight plans as they work too but they have to go in your 'My Documents' folder, not in the sim folder. Save a flight and a flightplan in 04 and you'll see where the 02 versions have to go (but see below if they are for planes you later have to delete).

Then check everything out. Any aircraft that don't show gear, rotors, engine fans and other sundry bits, delete em unless you have a special reason for hanging onto them as there's no cure. Also deinstall any sceneries that are wildly out but don't worry if it's just an AFCAD or 'height' problem as they can be corrected with a bit of work (I've still got lots of old FS2000/02 sceneries in my 04 but beware phantom 'crashes' with invisible buildings, esp around the apron - only solution if there's no replacement 04 scenery yet is to turn off crash effects)

You're just about to experience one of the BEST bits about moving to 2004 - seeing your old 2002 stuff in it and how much BETTER it is. You're gonna really enjoy yourself for a coupla weeks

If I remember correctly, weren't you extrimily opposed to ever purchasing FS2004???

I uninstalled FS2002 before installing FS2004 because I was afraid the framerates and everything wouldn't be as good. So far everything has been going smooth and I purchased it last summer!  :) Your gonna really enjoy 2004!  ;D

As Roller Ball says, If you have enough disk space leave FS 2002 in place.
There will be times when you want to use planes, scenery, effects, add-ons, etc, that were only designed for FS2000/FS2002... ;)...!

I have both FS 2002 and FS 2004 programs on my hard drive, and I still have lots of fun running FS 2002, (most of the time)... ;)...!!

Each program has it's individual attraction... 8)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

Paul.

You absolutely are Andrew old chap ;) - but remember at that time TTools and AFCAD didn't work, you couldn't  do anything with the AI traffic, there wasn't any add-on scenery and everyone was just posting pics full of clouds and saying how marvellous they were. I had a huge 'investment' in the things I've mentioned which I wasn't prepared to just drop but things then changed and it was time to make the move.

But like Fozzer I still occasionally fly my FS2002 because I've got some aircraft that I like in it that aren't yet in 04.

But you'll be gratified to hear I'm sure that at least I got my copy of 04 (all original disks and packaging etc) off UK Ebay at just over half price. As you know by now Andrew, I'm a spikey old sonofagun and just can't resist a good deal when I see it ;D

I have both 2002 and 2004 installed on my system.  Never had a conflict problem.
